Has anyone ever gotten indenations in their scalp from the steroid injections? My derm said it can happen if the area is injected too many times. it has only been done 3 times each at least a month apart. I have hair growing in the are but very thin-I am afraid that hair will fall out now due to the indentations-has anyone had experience with this?

Also I had lost 70% of my hair but now have regrowth and dont have to wear a wig-one side of my hair seems to be growing thinner and slower-I am constantly at fear that the hair will fall out again-I cant go backto a wig it was horrifying to wear it! How do you stay away from the fear that it will fall out again-I check it constantly(several times a day) it is the only thing that stresses me.

Any advice would help.

Hi Tanya! YESSSS i have had experience with the indentations. this is only IF they use TOO MUCH and TOO CLOSE together. I got shots about half a square inch away from each other. VERY uncomfortable and i definitely noted indentation. but they usually go away with time, mine did! Of course... so did my hair... Anyway, the indentations usually grow more hair because that's where the medication is concentrated. Doing the treatment a month a part should be good. The thin hair will get thicker as it grows back fully. Sadly, mine did not but when i had that treatment previously, it DID work and you really have to give your hair like a year to go back to "normal"

To keep from going crazy STOP STARING at your hair!!! It's like staring at a kettle waiting for it to boil- you'll only go crazy. Plus the growth is gradual so dont look at it for a few weeks at a time. Put a rubber band on your wrist and SNAP yourself when you do. That way, you can concentrate on other things. You can stare at it all you want, it won't grow faster or slower.

GOOD LUCK!!!! You are indeed LUCKY to be having growth so keep your head up.
@nancy, Thank you, that advice was good for me too.
I love your response...SNAP yourself....you are too funny. Yes, all of us staring at our heads/hair is indeed like a watched pot. Drives us all crazy. Staring doesn't change things...it just wastes our time.
Hey Tanya,

I received injections and now have indenations in my scalp.Yuck! But I can live with indenations with hair. I'm having very slowwww regrowth. I llost at least 70% also, but I don't have that much regrowth. I still need a wig. I hate wigs too. Tanya try not to keep checking, because that is stress and you know they say stress might be a factor. Many people regrow and the hair fall out again. I'm telling you this, because it will be better for your mental health to face the truth, so that you will be able to handle things better. The main thing is to keep that stress level down, that is something you can control/
I got those when I had the shots years ago, but now I gave up, gave in, have a smooth top but wear wigs. The indentations go away eventually if you stop the injections. I decided that I would rather not stress over chemicals, shots, uninsured appointments, and tears. I felt like a dang guinea pig every time, especially when on about my third or fourth round of hair loss in my life. Enough is enough! Time to just BE!
Tanya,
I was told by my dermatologist that the cortisone shots can and will cause wasting. When I decided I was going to just start shaving my head, I stopped the shots because I didn't want the indentations. Good luck and congrats on getting some hair growth.

Hi Tanya

I get about 30ish injections every 6 weeks. I have a big dent in the top of my head and I can't help playing with it (hehe) which doesn't help hair growth, they do smooth out, my derm says not to have the appointments too close together, every six weeks is good. It feels weird though... I have no advice for you, I just throught I'd let you know it happens with the injections. I also use two creams which I find worse as they itch my scalp!

take care
Tracey
I haven't experiences the indentations on my scalp but my doctor brought them up when I started to lose my eyebrow and wanted shots. She told me she didn't want me to get the shots in the eyebrow because of the risk. A girl I met at a meeting showed me here eyebrows which had all grown back in but you could see the dents. Even if I had regrowth on my eyebrows I wouldn't want the dents. Especially since this condition is so unpredictable I wouldn't want to have the dents if they fell out again. I just stick to my make up and go. As for my scalp, I still get the shots about once a month in my scalp. I'll let you know if I see anything.
Hi Tanya,
I got indents in my scalp from the injections, but they do go away. I also had injections in my eyebrows when they started to fall out and got the indentations there too! They went away after a month or so. I had injections for almost 2 years and was losing the battle.

As for the fear, stress, worry, panic... That only went away when I managed to find a great wig and was able to give up the constant fight to try and grow the hair back. Before that, hair was on my mind all day every day. I could barely function.

I am so glad that you are having some regrowth! I hope that all your hair comes back!

I can surely understand indentations with steriods...only dealings I have had was getting cortizone injections of some kind of steriod into my elbow for tennis elbow, (epicondilytis) from being on the computer endlessly for my job..I got 3 injections approx. 8-10 months apart...after getting the last one, months down the road, I would hold my arms both down straight and I looked into the mirror, and my elbow that was injected, well, it is definitely
"caved in" as I call it...obvious difference from the other elbow...like as if I lost tissue that never regenerated...due to the shots in that area. So I do imagine that it does happen. Be careful. WHY was wearing a wig horrifying???? Please do tell what your experience was.
Hey neighbor..Palm Harbor, I just checked on wigs online again, as always, and found that Bravadas in Clrwtr has closed. That was a nice shop...lots of selections. Was gonna ask you were you go for wigs, but.....YOU DON"T
Hi lexi-I didnt know you were in Palm harbor! I had gotten my wigs from a place in oldsmar on Tampa RD-Good hair Days is the name-the lady there sells them for dirt cheap-try it. Where in Palm Harbor are you? My email is Tanya.Ogalesco@gmail.com
