Anyone who would take your money to do this on a person with a verifiable diagnosis of Alopecia areata totalis would be practicing unethically.

Clinically, the dysfunction at the follicle site is unchanged so if you transplanted hair, that hair would be subject to the same sub-dermal infiltrates seen by microscope in AT cases. The condition does turn itself on and off, so of course you could be at a stage where the hair grows, but just as randomly the loss could begin again.

Surely if you ask and are willing to pay enough, you would find someone who would do a transplant on you. But a clinician with those ethics would be someone you would not want to deal with. Maybe their lack of ethical standard leads them to shortcuts in infection control and techniques, too. You wouldn't want to subject your good health to that situation at any price.

I agree with Thea. If you did have any hair that you could transplant, the same thing would happen to it as the original hair because the alopecia is still there and not cured.
I am sorry but I have to disagree. I am a living example of this. I have ophiasis type of AA. I have had hair transplant done in my temples (area about the ears) to create "artificial" side-locks. 90% + of my transplanted hair has stayed after about 7-8 years. However, in my case I had my own "donor" area from the back of my scalp. With AT, you won't have any donor hair that can be transplanted.
