It's windy in New York
It has been so windy here in New York, almost winds as strong (or as I feel) like a mild Hurricane. I am sooo afraid I'm going to lose my wig!!! Has anyone had that happen or have suggestions how to be wind proof??!!
I have nightmares that it blows off at soccer practice in front of my daughter and her friends! Yikes!!

I just heard about petite wigs too, I may have to look into that for my next wig. Mine is adjustable and very hard to manage sometimes.

Miss Erica, I know how you feel. but I have found out our wigs stay on much better than we think. for awhile, when I was wearing a synthetic wig, I would go out on the lake in a water ski boat and with the tabs pulled a little bit in to make it fit a bit more snugly than normal, my wig never moved! my worries were that the wind would show the wefts and people would see my bald head underneath. that fear was so nice to say bye bye to when I got my first vacuum piece. the other problem with wind and synthetic wigs is... the hair will stay wherever the wind blew it.. as in straight out or up. I was constantly looking for a mirror and checking that I looked okay. or asking my husband to do a hair check ... "does it look okay?" now, with my FREEDOM piece, I love letting it get wind blown, looking messy looks real and normal to me. other tip: the sun visors work GREAT for keeping the front looking normal. I wear my synthetic in Hawaii with my sun visor hat thingy.. on the beach... on the boat... works great!!

After this busy weekend of soccer in this crazy wind, my synthetic wig has stayed strong, but, yes, style stays where the wind blows it!!! My bangs looked like 1980's hair band days, but it stayed secure!! How did you come about a freedom wig? I just learned about them...

I love hearing about these freedom wigs!!! However, I hear they are costly, how do I start...I also, here they are popular in Australia and New Zealand. When I searched for them, they looked amazing but no prices were listed, my insurance will only cover another $1500.00 american. If you could give me more information that would be great!

sorry, I have been away for a bit. I have been wearing vacuum pieces made with 100% virgin European hair, made in New Zealand for YEARS. I used to buy them thru Peggy Knight but she no longer sells them (she sells Follea... yuk). I found out about them by attending one of the yearly NAAF conferences, where there is always a table for the vacuum pieces. The latest vacuum piece from FREEDOM is so much better than the old ones.. The base is more flexible. Nothing beats this piece for being in the wind, being secure, no matting hair, natural looking.. I consider FREEDOM pieces the Cadillac of wigs. Price.. I think you get what you pay for. I wear my hair long. My notes say 12 inches cost $4,770. Yep, way more than insurance will cover but with proper care, they last forever. I put my first one on my Visa card. Made payments. Great new technology: the laser machine which makes a perfect mold of your head. Perfect fit. My ONLY complaint is I do get too hot in some situations. But for working in an A/C office for 23 years, it was wonderful!

I missed your message...so even though I'm late to reply I hope I can help.
A Freedom wig if looked after well, will last well, but keep in mind that they do wear out and they do need to be replaced. Your lifestyle and extent of wearing is dependent on a few things. If you decide to get a Freedom Wig discuss this with your Independent Agent as it's important to understand what your lifestyle is and what that can mean to the lifetime of a Freedom Wig. It's better to make knowledgeable decisions, that's what a Freedom Independent Agent will help you with.
My daughter has been wearing Freedom Wigs for 10 years. Her oldest is 9 years old and I'm afraid it really is on it's last legs and tends to be the one she prefers to swim in. She has another that is 7 years old and still going strong. She wore both of these wigs non-stop for two years and then started mixing it up with two other wigs she currently has (so all together she has 4 wigs - she wears all four). Which really helps with longevity and durability. I'm not suggesting you get four wigs, but just making sure I pass on the information so you understand she has more than one wig...so they last longer.
If you have one Freedom wig I think a sensible timeline for fairly normal wear would be 18 months to two years before a restoration would be required, then we hope for at least another 18months/2 years wear.(Again talk to an Freedom Independent Agent about restoration and what that means to you). Also be aware I have many ladies I help in New Zealand, who they have had their freedom wigs for 4 years and longer, without the need of restoration. It really does depend on your lifestyle and wearing style.
