Looking for support or info.
I'm 20 years old and female. My mother as well as my grandmother and her father have/had some variety of alopecia. We all started out with thin or coarse hair as children and little body hair.In their mid 20s they lost the majority of the hair on their head. My mom is know 47 and usullay shaves her head and wears a wig. If she let's any hair grow, she has less than an 80 year old. My mom has a cousin who works in medical/science field who also has it and as far as anyone can tell there's no cure. My part is balding towards the back and I have a patch gone behind my ear. How and when did you transition to a wig or did You? And has anyone else experienced this kind of hair loss with little body hair to begin with? I don't even know what to call it. I've spent my whole life knowing it was just a matter of time till I lost my hair. And I only have a few years at best. Eyebrows are all the rage now and I don't even have those. I have a collection of like 30 hairs there. I kust.. I want pretty hair.

go see a dermatologist to get a diagnostic and then u can assess the situation

With all the people in your family who have alopecia, I'm surprised you don't already have a fount of information and a community of support.
Go to a dermatologist, get a firm diagnosis, and get the latest treatment information on preserving the hair you have. For now, maybe just take a wait & see attitude, or fill in your part with a fiber powder like Toppix?
Since the eyes are the windows to the soul, they are one of the first things that people notice. If you can afford it, I would suggest getting microblading (see other discussions about this) or permanent make-up pfor your brows. It does need to be touched up every year or two, so be ready to make a committment for the rest of your life. Anyway, I would suggest sooner than later to have it done.
I would also give some thought to permanent eyeliner. I had it done and was ready for my round two touch-up, but have lost my eyelashes. Now there is no guideline (lashline) for the tatoo needle to follow, and I can't wear false eyelashes, so I have to buy waterproof eyeliner by the case! But, this is something you have to decide for yourself.
Only you can decide when you have reached the point in your hair loss adventure to move on to the next step: if, or when to shave your head. Wigs, caps or scarves can be worn with or without hair. Baldness, in all its glory, can be beautiful on some women.

I am just starting to transition to a wig. I used Joan Rivers Great Hair powder for years & it helped to mask my thinning hair but I'm to the point now where the front is gone. My pair kept getting moving further to cover it up. I decided it was time to take the leap to a wig. Tonight will only be my second time out but yesterday the first time wearing it to church went well. I stayed with a similar cut & people thought I just had a new style with bangs & loved it. Still feel very self conscience though. Guess it will take time.

hi, i was diagnosed with alopecia areata and you know there is no cure about it ... i ve tried visiting the best dermatologists in the country but nothing helps...
i found an alternative medicine maker , who showed me before and after photos of many of his pacients.
I bought his serum he adviced me to use it every 7 days .I used it twice and now my little hair are showing up.. he inherited his medicine making reciept from his ancestors and he has so many paients ....

i will recommand all of you not to see doctors they do not know about this autoimmune disease ... this serum works great in any person ... the lines waiting to see this "doctor"are large waiting for hours to buy his product ... he sell in small quantity as result is so fast ...if you wait for doctors to help all the hair will be falling down ...

to: i found a cure
you, yourself, stated that we all know there is no cure for alopecia. i'm glad you found something that works for you and is growing hair. however, like all "cures", xeljanz, and other solutions, it will only work as long as you are using it. you quit and you lose your hair again.
not to dismiss your doc as a quack, but people are gullible and some will do anything for hair. if he had a true cure, he could sell it to a drug company, market it on the internet, or whatever to truly help the millions who have to put up with the malady.
personally, i would be thrilled to just have my eyelashes and nose hair back so i wouldn't be constantly dealing with irritations and allergies.

i had alopecia in 2010 and i used same drug , my hair were grow fast and it didnt fall until now 2017 .... it means that I was 7 years without alopecia .. this old man that sell this serum inherited his teciept from is father , grandfather .... and so oj he sells a lot in our country the good side of this serum is that the disease doesnt expand anymore from the moment you start using it ... from my experience with same serum in 2010 it reqlly works in a fast time ... so now when my hair start to fall again i immediately run at the same person to buy serum again .... im so satisfied so I like to show to all people who are desperate that there is a cure and it works fast for two to three weeks you will see signs of hair

I had my first experience with alopecia in 2001. Had the scalp shots and used the steroid, all grew back, and all was inactive for 16 yrs. Was it a miracle cure? No.
If you believe in your guy and his 'cure' so much, why don't you give us his name and where he is?

its not the point if I believe in him or not his serum made my hair grow fast in 2010 and for 7 years I was AA free .. also now in 2017 AA appeared again in my hair I use it again and hairs are growing again . I m not doing marketing here I like to help people like me I m opened to share his info if you agree he lives in Prishtina ,Kosovo

Hi. I thought I would share my transition with you as we are about the same age. I'm 22 years old and have had Alopecia for about 8 years and started wearing a partial hair piece my sophomore year of high school (I just graduated college) about a year or so after wearing my partial I transitioned to a wig because I had very little hair and the partial did not cut it. I wore a wig with a bit of hair still remaining which wasn't ideal but I wasn't ready to let all my hair go. As I began college and studied Biology as my major, this was a huge turning point for me to give up the treatments and shave my head completely (I will say that at this point there wasn't much left to shave). I made this decision after years of treatments and because I wanted a more secure wig and a shaved head opened up these options. From your post, it seems like you are not at all at that point yet. I will suggest for eyebrows take a look at, Headcovers ( https://www.headcovers.com/eyebrows/eyebrow-wigs/ ), I wore their human hair eyebrows for almost 2 years and it made a huge difference for me. They adhere with a glue you have to buy as well and I would put them on every morning but it was one less thing to worry about. Let me know if you have any more questions. As a fellow young woman with Alopecia, I can assure you, you can have pretty hair and this won't define you!
