My very sweet nephew grew his hair really long, cut it, and is sending me his beautiful locks (it is just like how my hair was)! So I am trying to research making a wig and wondering if people have tried this outside the profession world. I realize that i will probable need 4 to 5 more ponytails. Does anybody know GOOD suppliers. I have found www.banburypostiche.co.uk and http://www.mhrw.com. Does anybody deal with buying hair too and have a good supplier. I am a fairly crafty person. I know it takes a LONG time to make a wig, but I figure I am going to be with out have for a long time too. Any info or shared experience would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Helen

Hi

Are you personally wanting to make your hairpiece? I'm afraid I don't have much information for you if that is the case. But Freedom Wigs are able to use your nephews hair combined with other ponytails to make you a hairpiece. This is done frequently for our clients as long as the hair is over 12 inches long, in a ponytail without turned hair etc. it would not be a problem.

If I can be of any help just pop in and say hi.

That's good to know and will keep that in mind. Thank you. A freedom wig is what I really would like to have. But, alas, even with the hair, i don't think I can afford it. I am really interested in the actual craft of wig making. seems like I should try and educate myself if I am going to be spending thousands of dollars on them. Wig making seems like it is tedious, but doable. I have girl friends that are excellent hair dressers, but can't take on such projects. Myself, I'm a metalsmith/ jeweler, and I'm pretty good at small tedious projects that take months to do. So I want to try. At least if I can get to the point where I can do repairs, and if I have an exspensive wig I don't have to wait two months to get it back.
Meanwhile my nephew is so supportive, and is also interested in this wig making we are both going to learn from this. It should be fun : )
hii Helen u can make a wig by buying th e wig caps with the holes in it and a good brand of he to buy is Yakky Hair> which comes in a pack Most people use it for extensions to braid hair but you can buy some> And there might be some videos on YOUTUBE to show you how to make a wig
that's a good tip because the wig caps are hard to find. Thank you. I will at least start with that. : )
