Hi everyone, I came across a company recently that does full head micro pigmentation and it looks very good. I use to shave my hair pretty close before alopecia universalis, and I'm seriously considering this. Does anyone have any advise or concerns that I may be overlooking. I appreciate this site and any comments. Thank you!

I've been AA for about a year and a half now, and have been looking online for "cures" or remedies almost obsessively.

One of the things I've stumbled across was micro pigmentation, and I've ultimately decided against it. My reasoning is that the ink is going to fade over time, leaving you with a green-ish skull, and so you'll need touch ups every now and then. Another point to consider is how natural it is going to look. Sure, you won't be able to see it from a distance, but from a closer point of view I think it's quite easy to spot in some of the videos I've seen on youtube. Take the last statement with a pinch of salt however, as I'm probably a bit biased given that I know the guys have just had the procedures. Furthermore, with pharmaceuticals approaching a solution for us (Xeljanz, Baricitinib, hopefully we'll have stem-cell treatments within the next 10-years) I think the inked skull would be something I'd regret after getting my real hair back (please let it be).

If I didn't misread your post you are currently AU. If I were you I'd only consider micropigmentation for the eyebrows, but even there I have the same concerns as mentioned above. Real shitty disease, this, but what can you do. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

PS if you do decide to go through with it, do a TON of research, not only on the procedure but also on the various clinics offering it.

Thanks for the reply! I am concerned about the long term look. The only example I've seen in person was a 2year old receding hairline treatment, but it was very convincing. Only when I inspected closely for the natural hairline could I see the ink was a slightly different color. I'm still in the research phase, and hoping to see more in person examples because I know photoshop can do wonders for a portfolio. Even the mock up pic they did for me at the clinic I visited is pretty good.

I looked into this procedure and decided not to do it as I thought it looked way to fake.

That said the image you posted looks so much better than anything I've seen...

Well I decided I am going to have the SMP (hair tattoo) after all. I looked into a company called skalp, went in spoke to them looked at work in person, and really had trouble seeing a difference between real and ink. I took my wife in the second visit to make sure I wasn't fooling myself and she thought the same. I will post pics and let everyone know how it turns out. Wish me luck!

Best of luck Ken!!!

Fingers x'd!!!

Hi everyone, I had my first session with Skalp. I will most likely have 3 more sessions to fill out the density and make some changes to the hairline and color. So far I am really pleased with the result. I asked him to make it very natural. I used to have very light colored hair so I don't want too dark. Up close you can see dots, but he was very consistent with the random placement. The dotted look seems to fade completely with the next layer. It was a lot less painful than a regular tattoo, but it took over 6 hrs to cover my whole head so I was wiped out and it did start to hurt. It is still tender 24hrs later, but as the redness goes away I am really liking it!

Hello ken

It  looks very good.can u tell me how much it cost.....

Thanks

 good luck

Hi Bunty, the cost will vary a little depending on how many treatments are needed. I have AU and needed my whole head so the cost was approx $5k. It's not cheap, but I checked around and price was consistent with different companies. I just liked the work I saw from them, and the fact that you can speak to other people who've had it done on a forum similar to this one.
I had my 2nd SMP session yesterday, 1 week after the first. It took about 3 days for the redness to completely disappear last time. I did it on a Thursday and didn't go back into work until Monday so it looked totally healed. The first round was very light so I wasn't sure anyone would notice, but I was excited to find out because I thought it was very natural looking. Monday no one said a thing. Tuesday I noticed a friend was doing a double take looking at my head. Then he came over with 2 other people and asked me if my hair was growing back! Another person said in a surprised way "you shave your head!? I thought it didn't grow at all?" I played along for a minute, but then told them it was a tattoo. They were even more blown away by that, lol. Everyone had to take a close look and said it was awesome, no one will ever guess. So I'm even more excited after the second treatment. It is a little more full, a little darker, and adjusted the hairline a little. I'll post before and 24hrs after pics.
Right before 2nd treatment
