Hi, everyone--my heart goes out to everyone... all of us.... who are dealing with this disease, being fairly new and having my grandaughter recently diagnosed with AA I was wondering how many of you have more than one child that has this condition and if so was there a difference in how the cases presented in each child? I can see that all parents and families desperately want to find the reason behind it what triggers the immune system in each child to respond in this way ...... has there been much research in physical environmental causes like toxin in landfills--things in housing construction that might be dangerous to the body? I see many of you talking about diet and hoping that might boost the immune system as well......always searching for the elusive answer..........thanks, grandma

Hello,

I have two daughters (out of 3) that have AA. My oldest daughter has had AA spots on two occasions. Once when she was in high school, she developed one spot about the size of a quarter that completly grew back. Then when she was pregnate, she has two small spots at that base of her neck, that again grew back without any treatment. She is 22 years old and her first spot in high school occured about the age of 17.

My youngest daughter (who is 18) has AU and has had some form of AA/AT/AU since she was 2 years old, always a more chronic case . She also has eczema, allergies and asthma.

We have a great deal of family history with this disease. My grandfather developed spots of hair loss during WWII, we think it was AA even though not formally diagnosed. My father also developed a couple of spots over his life, and my brother (who is my fathers son with his second wife) also developes spots of loss during stressful event. Again, none have ever had an official diagnosis but you can see, its clearly AA.

Hope this helps :)
