Hello

I’m relatively new to all this, I’ve lost about 90% of my head hair (only real remains are my temples ans the back of my neck). Have a few patches in my beard missing but nothing major and a few leg patches. All that loss started in May 2011 and I haven’t noticed any further progression since mid June 2011 so it all occurred in 6 weeks or so. My eyebrows appeared to thin but on inspection they have basically went blond (were medium brown) and probably haven’t thinned all that much if at all. also I applied a steroid cream and this may have bleached them a bit.

I understand that this is unpredictable and no one could tell me what will happen next but I was just wondering if anyone has a similar story about their early days.

Cheers

ps - i read on a post today about a birthmark on the back of the head - i have a strawberry mark also

Well it seems a very common story... i had alopecia areata for three years and then in a month or two I was bald... I can remember the fear when I saw my hairs fall down really so fast I couldn't beleive it. So one evening I bought a haircut machine and I shaved them all to take me ahead. And then I lost them all. Considering other health problems I had and I have, I don't have many more words to spend about it. Just so incredibly sick and bored by all these I don't give it a cr@p anymore.
Hi Kev, I can tell you my story was simalier to yours however I lost all of the hair on my body. Although it seems rare it is possible for hair to grow back as most of mine has even after having AU and being told I would remain bald the rest of my life. My early days started with rapid shedding of my scalp. It took about a month and I was a BALD CHICK !!! As if things didn't seem bad enough my eyebrows, arms, legs, eyelashes were also thinning bad. It got to the point people at work started making comments such as "over plucked those eyebrows huh ?" I didn't know how to respond. I noticed the first patch in Nov 07 and by Feb 08 I was learning the makeup thing with eyebrows and using eyeliner to conceal my missing lashes. Then in Dec of 09 I started to see very few tiny white patches of hair so I started taking hair, skin and nail vitamins, went to see the derm and he gave me a steroid solution. I only used the solution for about two or three months finally in june 10 I had enought hair to start documenting the growth. In mid jan 10 I got to toss that lovely wig in the closet and go without it (still keeping it though cause ya just never know when alopecia might rear its ugly self). So it took a year to grow enough hair for me to be comfortable with. So for now mine is still growing strong and so are my lashes and brows :) I hope this gives you some comfort knowing that it can come back and without any harsh medical treatment. I am glad to know that you have not had any more patches and wish you the best of luck.
Sorry this is so long I can on and on sometimes.
