I got my boyfriend tickets to see the World Cycling
event at the new Olympic Velodrome in London. It was his Christmas
present but the actual event was two weeks ago. We had an amazing
time and it happened to be the first day I'd worn my
hairpiece in public. Coincidentally one of the British Cycling team
has Alopecia. My boyfriend had told me about her and it was a real thrill
to see her race. We had front row seats and watched her
win two gold medals! She then warmed down on the exercise bike without her
helmet on and I was really touched that she wasn't wearing her wig - because I was
bravely sporting mine for the first time! She certainly proved that her alopecia hasn't
stopped her from going for gold! They then had the medals presentation ceremony and she
had no time to put on her wig. The press and media went crazy after that! In the following weeks Joanna
has been interviewed on national TV and in newspapers and
it has really made alopecia a talking point, she is becoming
an inspirational figure for other alopecia sufferers and
raising awareness about the condition in the UK.
All I can say is Go Go Jo!
