I'm not exactly sure when I first had Alopecia, but it got noticeably worse around November of 2011 and really bad and diagnosed in June of 2012.

The reason why I say I'm not sure is because in 2008 I used to ride a motorcycle. I noticed I was losing hair on my neck, mostly where the strap was, and I always assumed it was from that. But then I noticed it'd expand a little more and couldn't figure out why. Well I stopped riding for personal reasons 1 year later, and it started growing back, but not completely. Eh, whatever, no big deal.

Going back to Nov 2011, I purchased a cat. Wasn't aware I was allergic to it until 3-4 months later. I guess it didn't affect me right away or something. But I would get watery eyes, running nose, stuffed up, etc. So I started taking Allegra, and was fine. I also noticed a very, very small patch of hair loss, like dime size on the side of my head. Again, thought nothing of it. It progressively got bigger after the holidays and around June, I had multiple spots. At this point, my hair wasn't able to cover the bad spots, no matter how much I tried to grow it longer.

So I went to see a derm, and he told me what I had. I also lost more hair on my neck, legs, arms, and 3 circular spots on my stomach. He also told me alopecia can sometimes be related to a major life change event. At the time, I couldn't think of anything, but now looking back - It could've been the cat. I know allergies can do a lot to a body and now that I sadly gave him up for adoption, I'm hoping this life change event returns and lets my hair grow back.

The doctor prescribed me some cream to apply on the scalp. I used it for 30 days, didn't seem to make a bit of difference. So around August I stopped using it.

Fast forward to now, and I have noticed some subtle hair growth, not enough to fill, and the hair is mostly white. But I was told it can take a while to color.

It gave me some hope, but sadly not enough. I keep my head shaved, and occasionally while i'm not dating, I'll grow it back out to see if any new hair growth occurs. It always seems to be the same, so I wear a hat while keeping it shaved since the winters can be cold.

Sadly, no matter how close of a shave I get, you can still see the bald spots. I've used those Fusion and Mach III razors, anything that gets the best shave.

I made another appointment to see a doctor. I might do the shots as my cousin had the same issue and his hair recovered.

My question is, should I do the shots too and hope for the best? My other doctor told me not to do it as it may be false hope and kill my self esteem further.

I ultimately would love to have hair again, but I'm comfortable enough to be bald as long as I can find a way to not show the bald patches still even after a smooth head shave.

I'm also considering laser hair removal on my body so I don't have to bother waxing.

I appologize for rambling. I probably stopped making sense, but I'm feeling very lost at the moment and trying to make the best of it. Most of my friends know and they try to be supportive, but I feel like I'm not out enjoying myself like I used to and choose to stay in.

Getting a cat and finding out you were maybe allergic to it, isn't a life changing event. If you were allergic, it should have maybe happened immediately, although I know some people develop an allergy. But you never had that allergy confirmed by a dermatologist with a skin test. You just assumed. Anyway, I feel for you, but at least you are a guy. I cannot figure why guys shave themselves bald in the first place when they actually have hair. Go figure. I would not bother with the shots, unless you have time and $$$ to burn.

I did have an allergy to cats, it was confirmed by my regular doctor. I realized I left that part out.

I shaved because i lost a lot of hair. I had several spots all over my head.

Hi,
I tried the shots for about 2 years. Sometimes they helped, sometimes not. I went from 30% hair loss to about 90% in a month last spring and gave up the shots. It was a relief. Things are going okay almost a year later. I wear a wig most of the time, hats or headcovers to the gym. Best of luck to you.

hi i suffered from AA, i had around 19 patches n wouldnt stop, i kept losing a lot of hair, tried different docs, i finally found a homeopath who cured my AA,,my hair grew back in just a few weeks n in around 3 months the whole patch was covered, initially when the hair started growing it was very fine n sort of greyish blonde, it is not related to stress as the allopaths suggest, from my understanding and as per my doc it is a fungus that feeds on hair bulbs and as long as the germs are present the hair won't grow back hence the task is to eradicate these germs that live several layers under the skin, which mean just superficially apply cremes wont help, i used Croton Tiglium,it is a seed but you may also buy it in oil form over the internet but make sure its pure and apply it on the bald patches continously for a week or more, this oil causes the skin to break out in blisters and by the time these blisters heal your hair will grow back , but make sure during this treatment not to shampoo the hair.. please try it its the only way to cure AA the shots dont work!!

Do you have a link to buy it in pure liquid form? I found a bunch of sites with seeds only.

Seeds are the best!! buy them you need a few seeds lets say one seed per patch for 3 to 4 applications ..
method:
crush one seed n mix with a drop of lemon juice
cut lemon( small green variety)into half n rub the bald patch vigourously till it burns n is reddish( mind u its a bit barbaric but it works)
now apply the little paste on the sore area n rub it in,,
continue application for 3 to 4 days once a day.
do not shampoo hair for atleast 5 days from start of treatment,
this application causes the skin to blister terribly n is painfull but do not worry the blister will dry out naturally and in about 2 wks your hair will grow back!!

I was lucky to find this cure it works like a miracle !! it was a night mare and i was almost suicidal, iv been thru this trauma and i want to share this remedy with as many as possible pl share after your treatment!! thanks

my hair grew back white but changed to brown once it got longer

I stopped shaving my hair and let it regrow. I noticed that about 75% of my hair grew back in the spots that were bald. Luckily some of the spots are so small that if my hair grows long enough it should cover it. I still have one spot that's a little bigger than 1" but it seems to be filling in, just slowly.
