Hi, I am new to Alopecia World myself and had posted a question yesterday on whether anyone has tried Viviscal for hair regrowth (nobody responded).  I have read about Biotin and Evening Primrose and am going to start taking those supplements in the hopes that I'll get new growth.  I currently take a B Complex, but on it's own, it's not doing anything.  Good luck to you!

My son takes Biotin daily - it really makes his hair grow thicker and fuller, with the added benefit of clear skin and strong nails!  He was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata early last year and the Naturopath recommended this supplement.  Also, only natural ingredient shampoo and deodorant - apparently certain chemicals can trigger hair loss in some people......

Thanks! How much Biotin does he take each day? I just received my Viviscal so I will start taking it tomorrow. I have noticed big ridges in my nails too and am hoping that with enough supplements and eating gluten-free (going to start that as well), I will see some improvement. I had surgery twice in 2013 and I'm sure the stress and anesthetic didn't help matters. I currently use Wen cleansing conditioner on my hair, but will also switch to natural ingredient deodorant. Thanks so much for replying.

He takes one capsule a day (1000mcg) and uses Avalon Organics Biotin B-Complex Thickening Shampoo.

Great, thank you so much!

I've taken Viviscal for a year and a half.  I also take 2000 mcg biotin.  I think the vitamins have made my remaining hair healthier but they aren't stopping the hair loss or making new hair grow.  I have FFA.  When i've finished this box of Viviscal i won't be buying more.  I'm going to buy a wig.

Viviscal is pretty expensive, and from all the comments here on this thread, it sounds like it makes existing hair grow, but doesn't make new hair grow. I agree with comments here that the best thing we can do is eat right and live a healthy lifestyle. I ordered my wig, will be picking it up in two weeks.

Hi, I haven't tried Biotin, but I have a good experience with Marbo Activator. It is 100% natural hair loss remedy and it helped me grow my hair back. I battled Alopecia for a long time and I've been using this Activator regularly for a while now. I hope it will help you too. Good luck!

ladies, i take a lot of vitamins.  Every night, before going to bed, i have to prepare them in a small dixie cup.  My boyfriend of 12 years calls it the "Vitamin Palooza"..

If anyone used to shop Folica.com in 2007, they removed the pic of my balding head after trying the Nioxin TOPICAL Products.  I gave a warning that this product should not be "mixed" with certain growth products - though the label stated otherwise.  After i posted the pics on the site.  I lost pretty much 95% of my hair, afterwards, yes, and stubbornly clung to the 5% till that finally fell out a few months later.

I am basically a tom-boy, and also learned that i have a natural testosterone level.  With age, this turned into DHT, and we all know what THAT does.  Figuring that topical growth-aids weren't for me, i decided to try the natural route by using vitamins.

What worked was the Nioxin VITAMINS..growing the hair from the inside out, with DHT Blockers. (Stinging Nettle, Saw Palmetto, Burdock etc.) Plus it also had Biotin, Bcomplex, and other vitamins blended in for overall health of hair, skin and nails.

Once i and others started posting my results on the hair forums, Amazon.com, the price went from $19.99 a bottle to ridiculous. (Some vendors on amazon/ebay were charging $399.00 a bottle).  Supply and Demand, plus Nioxin they stopped making them, and kept pushing their more popular TOPICAL products..

I'm now taking Hair Omega DHT Blocker, with other natural supplements due to my athleticism/age/diabetes.  It costs about $20.00 a bottle on Amazon.com or from their website.  One pill (it's not small, ladies), should be taken 3x a day.

Please read the reviews before buying this, and beware, there are "capes" from the company that decided to screw up the reviews by posting as consumers.  This is starting to be a huge pain, in every industry, now.

I won't say that vitamins where the ultimate solution? But if you're going to take vitamins, you probably already know that changing up the diet, (lots of fresh fruits/veggies/no red meat - just as several forum members have done), exercise, and lots of water is helpful.

Since Nioxin stopped making their Hair Vitamins, there are plenty of companies out there now that are making natural vitamins with DHT blockers, Priveta,  NuHair, just google them, and i'm sure you'll find several with different price ranges.

I now have hair on my head.  It took SEVERAL setbacks, and patience. 7 years later? I'm just now at Collar Bone length, and the crown is about 3 inches.  That, and the edges were, and still are my trouble spots. With the vitamins, massages, Inversion, diet, exercise, one day, maybe one day, i'll be able to go with out wigs, or hair pieces.

Wow, this is all very interesting, thank you for taking the time to write it here.  It's amazing what the "industry" does to keep things in their favor.  I will be done with wearing my bonded hair system mid-February (oh, the ol' contract that I must abide by or else...) and am so looking forward to wearing a wig so I can chart any progress.  I think part of my problem is also having had a system bonded for 8 years now (and $30,000 later).  Your information is very useful, I will check into the vitamins with DHT blockers, etc.  Isn't there any way to bring Nioxin vitamins back?  They should've kept making them, we'd all be using them.

Keep us posted here, I'd like to keep hearing how you're doing, and I will do the same.  Thank you!

This is just me, but I think various things MAY work for some individuals, but surely won't work for all or the majority,  Some time maybe it is just coincidental.  I took biotin for a while, with no change whatsoever. Funny, I take all my vitamins in a Dixie cup as well.!!! Down the hatch......

A few years ago at my annual physical, my doctor said I was low in vitamin D, so I have been taking 2000 IU every day since then. Now, my D levels are good and I do feel better too. I am in the Chicago area and, of course, in winter we don't get enough sun. I also have vitiligo, and alopecia is a common 'side effect' of vitiligo. With two autoimmune issues going on, I have to really stay on top of my health. I've had stomach issues for a long time and have recently cut out dairy and gluten. I take papaya enzymes for my stomach and they work wonders.
