New here... question about injections

Hi...
My 12 year old was diagnosed with AA almost 3 years ago. The 1st time she had a patch of hair loss. Right before we were about to start injections, dr noticed hair growth so we didn't do the shots. That was about 3 yrs ago.

Now hair loss restarted. She has several spots and hair getting thinner and thinner. New doctor (new insurance) and we started injections today. She was in so much pain I was dying inside. Now 10 hours later and she's complaining of pain. She says she feels like she's getting shots again like constant pinching pain. I can barely touch the spots where she was injected. Ibuprofen was given over hour ago and still she's uncomfortable and in pain. Any suggestions? Can I ice the areas or do something else?

I just had my first eye brow shots last week. I am a chronic pain patient and those shots hurt worse than my worst pain day. I screamed when they did the injections. I'm glad my husband and kids weren't there to see. My eyebrows hurt for a day or two, and were really itchy, I found that rubbing gauze helped with the itch as I didn't want to touch it. I'm sure different people respond differently to the injections. I will only do them again if my eyebrows show progress and don't fall out again. I will not do them in my scalp, too painful. I'd put ice on it if she's still in pain. Maybe talk to the doctors about how she responds to it for an alternative treatment. Sorry I can't be of more help. I'm new and can only say what's its been like for me. Hope it helps. :)

In my personal experience the injections should only hurt while they are happening. Your daughter is most likely having some sort of reaction to the injections. 

Also, don't feel too bad about the pain she went through...a few seconds of pain will seem like nothing compared to the joy she'll feel when she first starts to see those tiny little hairs start appear :)
