Hi everyone!
I noticed hair falling out 8 months ago, all over..no bald spots. My scalp was red and irrigated. I started with steroids but saw no improvement. I had a biopsy done and they said it was non-scarring alopecia. The only treatment is to use Rogaine.
I decided to have the Merena IUD removed first (after researching and finding out many people lose their hair with it). I haven't seen an improvement. But my question is...when will the redness and irrated scalp improve and what (if any) other medications I should be trying. Lately, I've had redness, burning and pimples. Is this normal? My derm dr just shook off my questions and said this is normal. I thought I'd ask here first. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. No one understands (when they physically can't really tell yet) how it feels to see so much hair gone.

Hi Melissa, as far as I know some people react better with Rogaine (minoxidil) and others to Finasteride...
Anyway, my doc always told me to not to use it if there is any irritation, inflammation or injury on the scalp because it could lead to excessive absorption of the drug in your body.
Are you having this treatment controlled by a specialist?
Mi Melissa,
Look, I read this about Rogaine:
Side effects: (If you suffer any side effects, you have to stop treatment immediately and consult with a doctor.)
- Allergy or inflammation somewhere in the body.
I will suggest you to see an specialist, I used to use minoxidil and I do not remember any mayor irritation... It does produce some minor scalp discomfort... but if the scalp has obvious inflammation, I think it's best to seek the help of dermatologists...
Where are you from? I can try to help you find one if you want.
Have a nice sunday ;)
