Hi everyone,
I am new to the site. I was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago and was treating with steroid injections. Over the last 6 months my dermatologist basically said that it is a lost cause and she would continue the injections but doesn't expect much. I stopped for awhile but have decided to go back again because the hair loss has picked up. I am really having a hard time with it.

I have been reading a bunch about food allergies being possible causes. I aslo have been thining about seeing a neuropath. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I am looking forward to getting to 'meet' many of you!

Hi, and nice to meet you.

I am no help to your questions above, however I too am also interested in the food alergy side of things, I accepted my alopecia, but I am concerned for my daughter, who has already two autoimmune diseases, so seriously wanting to look into this deeper. If you find anything interesting out please let me know.

Cheers, Bridge

Hi Bridge,
I'll let you know what happens. I haven't had a chance to look into it too much yet, but I'm going to take that route next. I have accepted that I have it, but I haven't accepted that there is nothing that I can do about it...not yet. At this point I still have much of my hair, but it's coming out much quicker now. I, too, am worried about my daughters. They are healthy, with no signs of autoimmune diseases, but I didn't have any others either. How old is your daughter?

stephanie

My daughter is 8 turning 9 in a couple of weeks, she came down with Hasimoto disease late last year, (which I too have) and Alopecia April of this year. I accepted mine after leaving school and doing my own reasearch into it, however my daughter has been seeing a endocronologist at the Royal childrens Hospital due to having two autoimmune diseases at such a young age. As I and this specialist are concerned of her getting more, as recently as monday a test came back that she was not satisfied with so brooke had to have more tests, this is what has really motivated me to look into the food allergies, however Brooke was tested by our dr, and she only has slight alergies to Milk and Wheat, not enough "he says" to be concerned about. But I will be persuing this direction further for her.

How old are your daughters?.... remember it does not always carry on through our children, so I hope your not worrying too much. But I can see why you are looking into it as I am.

My mum gave me a book which i am about to start (haven't been able to untill now due to studies)..... I'll let you know the name of this book, tomorrow as I can't remember it off the top of my head. But it looks like what I am wanting to know.

Hi Stephanie,
YES!! I have had both food sensitivity testing (a food allergy will yield an immediate response, whereas a sensitivity tends to have more long-term effects) and vitamin/mineral/etc. testing done after struggling with AA for almost a decade now. I can't even begin to tell you the satisfaction that I have had with finding out the results and then acting on them. I did the shots, creams, onion juice etc. for years before I realized that I would have to heal from the inside out rather than the other way round.

First off - I found that I was biotin deficient - research the connection btwn biotin and hair loss - shocking! I was also deficient in D3 and various B vitamins - which I have since addressed. My food sensitivity testing (foodallergy.com is the company that conducted them) and found i was sensitive to a number of foods - coffee, gluten, wheat, bakers yeast, tomatoes, sugar.....the list goes on. I eliminated these and have had tremendous success. The only time a spot or two has snuck back up is when I am eating copious amounts of sugar (darnit!!) and then I eliminate again and all is well. Once I did this, I began to use the steroid shots to "boost" the hair growth and that has worked.

I've only been supplementing hard-core with the biotin and d3 for the past few months - wish i'd known this 10 years ago! I am already shocked at the thickness of my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. After years of suffering with this, where at times I had up to 20 spots on my head ranging in size from a golf ball to a dime, I feel better than I have in years as it has forced me to take a look at my lifestyle.

I do hope this helps!
