Hi all...I would really appreciate any personal stories of how soon the shedding might slow down. I was diagnosed in early january 11 and had my first injections in february so far very lil regrowth and dealing with dandruff plus still shedding.

Shedding comes and goes, I think, with most of us. You were diagnosed with what and how did they come to the diagnosis? I have female pattern hair loss...my shedding at times was so bad, as you will continue to read with most also, I didn't even want to wash my hair, because that is when I lost the most. I had hair everywhere, hanging off me, on my arms, my clothes, the counter by the sink, just everywhere. I would shed massive amounts and gather it up in a ball ...saying, geez, I could knit a sweater out of all of this. It would go on for about 3 months like that, then calm down..no more shedding really, and I would hope it was the last time, but then 6-8 months down the road, here we go again...more shedding. Presently (keep my fingers crossed and pray) the shedding has totally subsided. But then again, how much more could I shed before I actually lose all of it?
Thanks for your response Lexi....I was diagnosed with alopecia areata by both my physician and dermatologist by just a visual examination. The derm said no biopsy was needed ...I too shed a lot in the shower and well I just hope the shedding slows. I had a pretty stressful year in 2010 and by years end I was shedding. I hope the acupuncture and injections help me.
I had a laundry list of tests by my derm...she really said nothing about any diagnosis, maybe just because I have female pattern hair loss, or at least, that is what I have come to determine on my own. The tests really revealed nothing, and I really didn't want a biopsy to make a ball patch on my scalp and scar. I think the shedding will come and go in spurts...try to stay stress free, easier said than done, I realize. Stay strong...try not to worry ....
