My daughter came across this site. He claims to have success with alopecia for 20 years. Has anybody tried this? Is he for real or just another "expert"?
Thank you.
Myem

PLEASE NOTE: I posted this discussion a couple of years ago, I was "naive" at the time. Thanks to members like Mary and Thea, I have learned to look at the relevant data before subjecting my daughter to the so called "treatments".

Yes we have ordered it and have just started this treatment so we will see.
Do you know what form it comes in? (pill, cream, etc.) How much does it cost? Also, how do you order it? The website has not been quite helpful.
Yes ! I have personally spoken to Dr Shmuel Gonen over the phone. It is like soft gel, it has to be applied on the head and it takes about 20 to 25 minute to dry. I have ordered 3 month supply for $500.00. You can call him or email him he is also a member of this forum. Please let me know if you need any more help.
We are new at this. I have heard so many "cures". Her doctor is very skeptical of all the claims. The medical treatments (Antralin, Minoxidil, Clobetasol) have not produced any results. May be we expected too much for a couple of months. Please let me know if this treatment works for you.
I don't know If you have read all my post but I am a desperate father of a 2 year and 6 month old daughter who has lost 95% of her because of AA. I have used Clobetasol and Protopic for a very long time but it has not done any good. I wanted the best for my child no matter how much it cost. We did a lot of re-search and found out that steroid was the only temporary cure for AA so we started alternative medication at present we are using Homeopathy oral pills and Herbal Shmuel Gonen Preparation. We have to wait at least 3 month before we see reasults. Please let me know if you need any more help.
Thanks
Andy
Hi Andy,
I'm an aunt to a 6 year old little girl who lives in Turkey. I rarely get to see her since i live in the states but she too has alopecia. This kind of disorder is not seen in turkey that much and even though she is just a little girl she knows what is going on around her. She doesn't have this kind of a support group over there and i know things will get harder for her as she gets older. So, i am trying to do anything in my power to find that one thing that may work for her. I saw Dr.Gonen's treatment online and i wrote him an email. His people responded back immediately which was great. I sent them some pictures today and hoping to get to talk to Dr.Gonen sometime soon. We will most likely to get his treatment and see if it works but i wanted to check the progress with your little girl. How is she doing? She looks so cute in her picture. I sincerely hope that evertything works out for her and your family. Please keep us posted on her progression. That would be so wonderful. Have a great day and a safe labor day weekend. THANKS.
Hello Auntie Garrett, We are currently on Dr. Gonen's treatment and will continue till we get results. We started his treatment 2.5 month back and are still continuing it. So far there is no progress but nothing is Magic, Every Individual is different and some may recover faster or some may take a long time, As parents we do get worried but in order to treat this we need to have a lot of patience and faith In your Doctor and in his treatment. I have spoken to Dr Gonen he is a very caring, kind and knowledgeable person. He has a good team and they will respond to your questions in very detail. I have kept my faith in him. Please feel free to call me if you wish, you can Email me and I can give you my Tel #
Thanks
Andy
Andy...I sincerely hope this works for your daughter! But, people, I agree with Demm. I also emailed Gonen and asked about scientific trials in Israel or elsewhere. I got NO response.

ANYTHING that is real would have been subjected to double blind, verifiable scientific testing! There are numerous world-famous scientific research institutes in Israel. Where are the results?

Andy - if you're in voice contact with Gonen, please ask him: what scientific trials have been done, where, and how can we read the resulting reports. Until he can show us that, I would hate to see more AW members send him money.

Best of luck,
Mary
Hello Mary,
We represent Shmuel Gonen Hair Treatment Institute.
We just noticed your comment regarding Shmuel Gonen and though you imply that Shmuel Gonen is dishonest we respect your response. In fact, we expected in advance that any attempt to reach people beyond our home country and to help people with Alopecia Areata worldwide, would generate some negative responses. So we are perfectly OK with your comment and would do our best to provide more information re Shmuel Gonen and our hair treatment.
- Who can testify that Mr. Gonen is an honest scientist?
Shmuel Gonen is a scientist who spent 20+ years on research of hair problems, specializes in Alopecia Areata. Since you happened to mention the distinguished Weizman Institute of science, the president of the Weizman Institute, Prof. Ilan Chet (please google him + wikipedia), happens to know Mr. Gonen for many years from their joint academic background and cared to publish a recognition letter, which we publish on our facebook page.
- Was there acceptance of Mr. Gonen’s treatment by any member of the medical community?
Prof. Rafi Carasso (please google) hosted Mr. Gonen in his prestigious TV show in Israel, "Health". Prof. Carasso is not an entertainment host but rather a medical doctor and he dared to declare "There is hope! Natural, effective, preparation beats baldness", when he researched and found several people – men, women and children - who recovered Alopecia Areata and were willing to testify on national TV that their recovery was a result of our treatment. These people are not actors and were not given any benefit. They simply wanted to provide hope to other people with AA. Their testimonials are published on Youtube.
- What about scientific tests?
The track record among our 20,000 patients is fantastic, but that’s not a scientific argument. Our roadmap includes formal approval by FDA tests, which would be the best proof. These tests cost millions of dollars so for now we prefer to rely on our patients’ testimonials and success stories.
- Why only few people had heard about Mr. Gonen’s treatment, yet?
We recognize that outside Israel Mr. Gonen is still largely unknown, however our success stories with Alopecia Areata did reach the most prestigious TV shows in Israel. We currently invest a lot of resources trying to reach out and help people with Alopecia Areata worldwide. We are certain that the results will echo in Alopecia Areata communities.
We are very sorry if any of your emails was not responded. We simply never got it, probably due to a technical issue. In the future please email us directly. Our email can be easily found in facebook and Youtube.
To conclude our response, Mary, Mr. Gonen is a serious scientist and many of patients cared to freely testify about the success of our hair treatment, in specific for Alopecia Areata.
Kind regards,
Shmuel Gonen
Thank you for your reply on behalf of Mr. Gonen. As you are aware, there are many products marketed to people with Alopecia Areata which are without merit. We need to be VERY cautious, especially when the products have no peer review and when they cost a great deal of money, as yours does.

Formal scientific testing and FDA approval do indeed cost a great deal of money. Have you tried to interest the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (www.naaf.org) in funding testing of your product? NAAF funds are directed toward research into finding treatments or cures for Alopecia Areata. I would assume that they would JUMP at the chance to test your product. Or, have they turned you down? If you haven't tried to interest them in testing your product, that should be your next step.

B'shalom,
Mar
Yes, Demm. It would seem that if a product is effective, it could be tested by Mr. Gonen on a large (statistically significant) sample of Alopecians with varying degrees of hair loss, and the results reported. Natural remission is so unpredictable! My eyebrows and lashes and facial hair have recently begun to return. I've had NO treatment of any kind for almost two years, and changed nothing in my diet. IF I'd been using Mr. Gonen's product, or anything else, I would definitely be convinced that it was the cause of my remission.
Hello Mary
Your suggestion to contact NAAF is briliant. We will contact them and update the forum on the results. Thanks!

Demm,
Natural remission is a possible reason for hair growth. Unfortunately in many cases the remission lasts a period and then the hair loss continues. We intend to ask some of our best patients, who recovered Alopecia Areata years ago, if they will be willing to join the forum and share their stories. It might take a while, so please be patient.

Best Regards,
Shmuel Gonen Hair Treatment
