Hey everyone,

I have the androgenic kind of alopecia, and it's been going on about a decade... but lately it's just gotten particularly bad. Nothing has worked - Rogaine, vitamins, etc. It's a genetic thing and others in my family have this same issue. It. Sucks. As with many of you, I used to have beautiful hair.

I made the misguided decision to get hair extensions last week to try and bulk up the volume for the next several months, which will involve an engagement party where all eyes will be on me, and a wedding. I do regret the extensions (they hurt!) but my hair looks good right now and I am scared to remove them and have no hair for the party. So superficial, I know, but Indians are cruel.

Anyway... I need to start looking at wigs. Money isn't really the issue here (I am lucky), but I'd like it to be as undetectable as possible. I may have to shave my head before my wedding, which freaking sucks.

I've just read a lot of posts about people getting funny looks and the like. What's the best option out there?

I live in Southern California.

Any tips for a newbie wig shopper? Please help... I'm flailing here.

Hi,  Go to the Follea Salon in Beverly Hills.  Ask for Vicka.  She will make you feel beautiful!  I found one that looked exactly like the hair I was loosing.  When I returned to work, my coworkers just commented on how nice my hair looked or asked me "who cuts your hair."  I feel guilty not telling them it's a wig.  My best friends didn't spot it either, until I took it off and showed them.  This process is new for me, so I am slowly adjusting to sharing my situation.  I think you will feel gorgeous in a Follea wig.  The consultations are $85/hr and apply toward the wig, if you purchase one.  If you get a prescription from your doctor for a "cranial prosthesis," you won't have to pay tax.  Check to see if your insurance company has a wig allowance for medical conditions.  Good Luck with shopping and ENJOY your special occasions coming up!

I get natural looking hair systems from HairDirect.com which I bond 24/7 and are very comfortable!

I tried several options before finding the Freedom Wig.  It has been the most realistic and beautiful hairpiece I have found since getting alopecia 5 years ago.  It looks great worn in a ponytail, updo or down.  The best part is the freedom it gives you to do all activities from yoga, to swimming, to running with security and comfort.  There are several dealers of these hairpieces around the world.  You can visit www.freedomwigs.com to find the nearest representative for your area.  For more great pictures of clients wearing our pieces check out my Facebook page

https://www.facebook.com/imageevolutionhair?pnref=lhc "Image Evolution by Freedom Wigs".  It has truly been life-changing for me.

All the best in your search and please feel free to get in contact with questions.

Warm Wishes,

Jenn

Thanks you guys... these suggestions are really great. I appreciate it!

My favorite wig hands down is my Follea gripper.  Worth every penny! the most realistic looking wig I've ever worn. And I'm not a rep, I don't get a discount or anything-just very happy with this one.  Wore it to my stepson's wedding last week and got tons of compliments.

thanks for replying Miss Brigid.  Your wig looks great..

and thank you for not being rep for a certain company that comes on the forum with a vested interest.

That is such a turn off..

On the Follea Gripper, does anyone know if the parting looks natural "up close"?  You know how folks are checking our parts.

The part is very natural as is the hairline

cool!

and thanks for replying. heading  over to the website.
