I have recently been diagnosed with FFA and as you can all imagine, have been pretty distressed. I first noticed it with my eyebrows, but when I finally went to the dermatologist to see what was going on, she pointed out that I was losing hair at my scalp line and presented me with this scary diagnosis. Before agreeing to take Paquenil, I decided to self-medicate with turmeric capsules (powerful anti-inflammatory) and noticed that the inflammation went down, which is a good sign. I have since gone on Paquenil, but am not sure what it's doing besides giving me nightmares.

Yesterday, I went to a nutritionist/acupuncturist for the first time to see if I can get at the root of what is causing this condition, which traditional doctors seem to be almost completely clueless about, aside from suspecting that it is an autoimmune response. In any case, the acupuncturist is sure it's an autoimmune condition and has pointed out my diet issues which could be causing my immune system to go haywire. She has increased the amount of Vitamin D I should take and has also put me on a gluten-free diet. So we'll see what happens with that. Oh, and she stuck a bunch of needles in me. I slept through the night for the first time in months following that needle session and don't remember having had any nightmares. Curious. She also told me that my self-medication with turmeric capsules was absolutely the right thing to do and I do believe it has helped control the inflammation.

I was diagnosed in Nov 2011 with AA which has now turned to AU and signs are pointing that it is going into AT...Where do you get these capsules you had mentioned? I have tried all kinds of steroid injections, orals, topicals...Nothing has helped me :(

I'm not sure about about the abbreviations AT and AU, but I really do think that trying to take a more general, nutrition-based approach may be worth trying. The turmeric capsules are called Turmeric Force and you can get them online. I think the nutritionist/acupuncturist may have put me on the right course, but I can't say for sure since it's only been a week. The inflammation seems to be down though, so it's worth looking into. I will say that the turmeric definitely helped tone down the inflammation. All the best to you.
