I have had alopecia areata for about 7 months or so now. What started out as a nickel size bald spot has turned into one the size of a grapefruit on the back of my head. Fortunately, with my haircut, i can cover about 85% of it with my hair. My friends that know i have it tell me that they don't even notice it but i still spend about 98% percent of my social life worrying that either people can see it or that people are gonna find out and ask me about it. I spend all day moving the hair in the back trying to make sure that as much of it is covered as possible. I can't stop playing with it and i know that is only making it worse. And about 3 weeks ago i discovered another spot. I used to be so outgoing and excited to be around people but now its something i fear. The only treatment i've done is put Lotrimin cream on as it is an anti-fungal cream, and recently, as per some sleuthing on the internet, i found a product call Alotab that advertises treating Alopecia. I don't know much about it so if anyone else does, please tell me what you know. I apologize for how long this is, i just had a lot that i wanted to say. I'm so glad a site like this is out there for people. Please reply with any and all feedback. Thank you :)

Hi Cody~ I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata 3 months ago, so I am also new at "this". I started with 3 quarter sized bald patches at the top on my head and they continue to grow bigger. Now I am covered with small patches which I assume with all grow bigger in time. I am an elementary school teacher and working under the florescent lights....smartboard...leaning over to help the children, I was all comsumed worrying about covering the bald spots....so I now wear a hat everyday. My students know I have Alopecia and they have been wonderful. I go once a month to the dermotologist to get cortisone shots and I use a perscription foam that I put on 2x a day. I also wash and condition my hair with Nioxin....Nothing is working at this point. I dont have any new hair growth. I am meeting with a wig specialist on Friday afternoon to just check it out. This site is amazing. I go on every chance I get to just read...learn...and be inspired.
