I have had AU for 10 years. My fingernails have, my entire life, been weak, brittle and ridged. Since developing AU, these characteristics have just worsened. I've been fortunate not to have lost any nail beds but the nails are constantly peeling, extremely thin, ridged and break.

Some of these tips are obvious but not to me since I was never a female who cared for my nails ...

- keep explosure to water and other elements to a minimum

- apply olive oil or any other cream or oil to fingers and hands through out the day and especially after explosure to water

- every evening, apply a product Onymyrrhe to your nails

... back in August, I started playing classical guitar lessons. Since that time, I've applied Onymyrrhe to my right hand nails only (you need longish right hand nails to play the Spanish/Classical guitar). I figured it was a good test - if the product actually worked, my left hand would be much much worse.

Well, it works. My right hand nails (although growing paintakingly slow) are stronger and don't appear as weak or as sore and thin as the left hand nails. It's not a miracle worker but it does seem to strengthen

- don't use coarse emery boards to file your nails. Opt for 1000 grade sandpaper or something else equally gentle. Normal emery boards (even the one sold for fragile nails)seem to shred one's fingers

I tried taking Biotin for 2 months. I took 5000 MCG a day. I don't think it helped my nails but even if it did, I had to stop as it was causing much irritation in my stomach and giving me heartburn as well!

I hope some of what I said helps. The Onymyrrhe is sold in a variety of online stores ... GOOGLE and you should find it. GOOD LUCK!
