I have permanent hair loss from chemotherapy for breast cancer. The 'hair' that has returned is extremely thin, wiry and doesn't cover the top of my head at all. The hardest part if trying to wear a wig in the summer heat and humidity. I have to look professional at work and so need to wear a wig - any suggestions as to the coolest ones? Also, after radiation, my body seems to heat up instantly and I am so hot that the inside of my wig still feels hot when I take it off.
How do you survive in the heat?

Hi Aimee - Yes, I wear mostly bobs or shaggy bobs. I bought an integration wig and am using a wide, soft cotton headband to cover the top of my head right now. My friends are telling me it looks good and that they can't tell that I don't have hair underneath [I really hope they are telling me the truth].
I saw on this site somewhere that people are wearing Hair Dannas [etsy.com] and so I ordered two - I want to try wearing them 'backwards' kinda like you are talking about with the halo wig. It is so nice to get to talk with people who have such good suggestions!
Thank you.

Why don't you try a wig with a mesh cap? It has holes in it which allows your head to breath. Also, when your not at work or getting radiation, why don't you try wearing a cotton head covering such as a pre-tied bandana or snood. I wear a wig too when I go to work and also started getting really hot especially in the summer so I tried out the pre-tied bandanas and am really happy with them. First of all, cotton is great since it allows the air to circulate and prevent you from sweating. Second of all, as oppose to a wig, you have no hair on your neck which keeps you a lot cooler. Best of all, they are extremely comfortable and roomie and come in many different designs. I even found a website that sells pre-tied bandanas with additional padding in the front to provide height for those with hair loss. Check it out at www.MyHeadcoverings.com.

Hi and thank you for your reply.
I do wear the mesh - and I just recently tried an integration wig [really big holes] and wove a cotton headband through it --- so far that has been the coolest. I am just always concerned that the wig will blow and that people can see the bald spots through the holes. I want to keep working on the integration wig idea because since it has NO mesh at all on the top it is the absolute coolest.
I bought some HairDannas and am going to try and stitch one of those over the integration wig this weekend. Wish me luck!
