My 5 year old son was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in early February.  We tried a steroid cream for three months but it did nothing.  Now the dermatologist has prescribed Protopic which is a topical immunosuppressant and works by decreasing cell activity in the body's immune system in hopes of getting the body to stop attacking its own hair.  Anyone had any success with Protopic?  If so, can you please share your story?  Thank you in advance!

I'm starting a course of Protopic today. If you still post on here . . . mind telling me how this medication worked out for your son? I can't say that I am overly optimistic, but I'm going to give it a try because insurance is covering it. Will be combining with Rogaine . . . and turmeric. Throwing everything I can at this condition!

Hi!  Unfortunately, we did not have much success with Protopic.  We decided after a few months to stop using it.  We have not tried Rogaine yet as he is only 7 and I am not sure if we can try that at his age.  Good luck!  I have heard success stories with Protopic and Rogaine from others.

Thanks. I'm not optimistic about Protopic either, but I figure it won't hurt.
