Hi everyone. I am thirteen years old and was just diagnosed with alopecia areata today. Before, I was noticing that when I am shampooing my hair, lots of hair is coming out. Not in clumps, but in single strands. I have just started cortizone shots, and I was just wondering if even more air loss was s=normal. An comment would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Hi Leah,

I hope it helps to hear my story. When I was exactly your age I got alopecia areata and a lot of injections straight into my scalp (ouch). I don't remember if any more fell out but it ALL GREW BACK. I had thick, gorgeous hair for 30 more years before I got alopecia again.

Hi Leah,

I have had alopecia for 30 years. It started when I was 9 years old. I also went through cortizone shots. My hair kind of came and went with no real pattern. I think everyone is different and everyones body would react differently. Feel free to message me anytime for support. I am new to this site but I am finding it very helpful.
