When I discovered my first bald patch I went to my family doctor because I thought it was due to my thyroid disease. The doctor said it was a fungal infection because the bald patch was red. A few days later I found a second smaller bald patch went back and was referred to a dermatologist who said it was not a fungal infection and was alopecia areata. Three weeks later and I now have 5 bald patches. Some of them have some redness and I have some random red spots on my scalp that are not losing hair. My head is itchy and sensitive. Today the doctor did a scalp scraping to check for fungus because he is still not convinced that the dermatologist is correct with saying it is not fungal. Has anyone else experienced this and it not be fungal?

Anyone?

My daughter's spots are red usually right before more hair falls out.
