For the passed several months I've been dealing with Alopecia Areata after getting a bump on my head, and have heard that topical steroid creams can be ineffective and have side effects. I've read on some blogs that natural remedies like rubbing onion and garlic on your scalp can be effective. My question is what has worked for all of you? Any side effects?

Steroid cream did absolutely nothing for me. No side effects either. Steroid injections did nothing either. But I know others have been successful with both. Would give the onion a miss! But then again I went through a stage of trying weird and wonderful things so who am I to say!!

I know I thought the onion and garlic thing sounded cooky too but read that the sulfur in it is suppose to trigger hair growth. For now it's worth a shot, because I'm sensitive to meds so we'll see...

Everyone is going to get sick of me ranting about castor oil but it works!! I have only done three treatments and my hair is getting thicker (I only had peach fuzz before) I've been using it on my eyebrows as well and I am noticing dark hair on them too! Definitely worth a shot! I used ginger juice for a bit and it worked but I didn't keep up with it. Now I love using oils. They keep my head moisturized if nothing else.
