I'm experiencing unprecedented regrowth, and want to hear about your similar experiences. I have had AU for almost 4 years now, first onset being in my mid-thirties. Possibly there was a link between my stressful job and the hair loss -- I've been away from that situation now for almost a full 3 years. I've been using turmeric (golden paste - supposedly good for anti-inflammation) in the past few months and that's all I've been doing differently than normal. I have tried about everything for varying periods of time over the last few years!
I now have patches of thick, dark hair coming in all over my head, (not connected...yet?) and I'm growing eyelashes and a bit of body hair here and there. I know from reading, not to be too optimistic or get attached, as it comes and goes. But this is something I haven't seen before, and it's all coming in at once.
What are your experiences with regrowth and AU?

I applaud your will power. It is incredibly difficult to follow such a strict diet....Good for you!! It has taken me years to become comfortable just removing wheat and milk from my diet, and I still cheat sometimes. ;-)
It has made me feel better, which is very worthwhile...but the hair doesn't grow back for me.
Hi, I made my paste today, just had my tea. Thanks for the suggestion......I have been following the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol diet as outlined by Sarah Ballantyne. She is a scientist and a sufferer of Autoimmune conditions her approach and understanding makes so much sense. Please look at her books and her web site, Paleo Mom. You will learn . I have been on the diet for 5 months and feel fantastic. I am still loosing hair I have FFA and think I have to dig deeper into my gut issues so I am now having a stool test to see if I have a bacterial overgrowth...this can interfere with the healing of the leaky gut that causes the autoimmune flair. But, I do believe in tumeric an will have this everyday too.......good luck....I think this is all on the right track!
that's pretty interesting . I need to try your diet.
Although I wish this paste would work for everyone, I can say it won't. I hsve had AU for q5 years snd always lived very healthy lifestyle. My son hasa severe immune disorder, we both have many food allergies including wheat. I have painful arthritis so take turmeric in paste or tea regularly. I have had 2 severe stomach infections in last 2 years and therefore eat little meat, no alcohol, sugar. Still gluten free. I have not had even one hair regrow ever. Sadly!
Hi, I have had alopecia areata since last July, possibly effected by a bout of antibiotics that I had to take due to a minor surgery.
I am also taking turmeric daily since last month, half a teaspoon mix into a cup of bone broth and sprinkle with some fresh ground black pepper. I can see some regrowth. But diet is also quite critical for alopecia sufferers.
I came across a youtube video by a Dr John Bergman, a chiropractor, and he is just an amazing doctor with fantastic knowledge in all kinds of disease. I would like to share here one of the videos in which he mentioned about alopecia (quite near the end of the video). Please take some time to go through and his other videos. He is just amazing. Pls google Dr John Bergman - How to have healthy skin.
Cheers.
Pleased to hear of this good news!
There you go, another person proving my theory that stress is one of the most important factors in AA and AU,
I have had many challenge me on this & always stand my ground, so it is so pleasing to read your successful experience as validation.
Keep up with the stress-free lifestyle!
Best wishes for continued health and happiness along with more beautiful hair growth.
Your AA (AU) sister,
Deb
Thanks! I'm pretty sure getting rid of the big stressor (the job I hated) is a big factor too. Plus now I teach Zumba so I get to dance and sweat and enjoy being with people doing what I love almost every day. Moral of that story: do whatcha love and stress less!
You mention capers. I see that these are known to be anti-bacterial, anti-carcinogenic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory, so they could be adding further assistance to the turmeric paste to combat your alopecia.
Could you elaborate on how often you take capers, and in what amounts ?
Thanks :)
