Hello again,

I've seen discussions in the past about hair dyes and shampoos, just wanted to put a more recent one for any suggestions on what to use.  I have alopecia areata since May and I have not colored my hair ever since.  My derma said coloring my hair will not affect my alopecia.  I just don't want to use anything especially when I feel weird sensations in my scalp.  Also any shampoo recommendations?

Coloring will not cause that more hair will fall out but it can damage your still existing hair. That is why I would not recommend coloring at all. I mean if you have less hair then that hair becomes more valuable to you and you want to make at least that look nice. I always use pH neutral shampoos and conditioners that do not harm skin and hair in any way.

I use Jason Pure Natural Shampoo. It is supposed to be good for persons with thinning hair but I actually do not believe so much in Shampoos helping with thinning. It can just be a good treatment of your existing hair and the very top of your scalp.

I have always colored my hair.  No affect at all on alopecia. Coloring my hair is the only thing that makes what very little bio hair I have left "seem" no so horridly flat and sparse.  I mean, it still is, it just appears better.  And shampoo.....there is no shampoo that has any effect on hair loss.  Really.  Believe what you will........but then, hey, who knows. Everyone is different......

likewise !! we'll chat again soon....enjoy your day!!  I have to color my hair tonight as a matter of fact...it is looking really really thin.......yuck....

That is what I always tell. Hair coloring will perhaps damage you existing hair if you do it way too often but i has no effect on hair loss!

I use shampoo bar..like Alep soap or something 100% bio based on coconat oil or aragon oil.

After am recent allergic reaction to a shampoo with  large amount of cocamidopropyl betaine which caused me to lose 1/3 of my eyebrows, I switched to Andalou Argan Stem Cell Shampoo for thinning hair.  Am in a regrowth phase which is not shown in this old photo.  I don't think I can attribute the regrowth to this particular shampoo, the regrowth just happens sometimes but I definitely attribute my sudden hair loss to the cocamidopropyl.

Have also added tumeric in the form of curcumin, a Cal-Mag-Zinc, and a probiotic to my diet.

Have never colored my hair.

Mariah - I don't have a particular brand for curcumin (tumeric), the Cal-Mag-Zinc, or probiotic - I just look for them at the grocery store vitamin section.  I also had been through a treatment of Dritho-Cream (awful stuff that colors your pillowcase, shower, really rips up your scalp but I definitely see regrowth in the areas where this stuff really ripped up my scalp.) If you use this stuff, I recommend sleeping with a buff (can buy online).  Wish you the best.
