Should I try corticosteroids & an anti malarial or get a freedom wig?

I just need a little help. My doctor wants me to start some pretty
hard drugs with lots of side effects I'm not sure if I should? I've heard a high dose of corticosteroids can cause bone loss and weigh gain and anti malarials and cause eye problems. I miss my hair but are the side effect worse then Having AA.
I just wanted to ask if any one has used one or both of these drugs? And if so did they work for you? Also if someone has used a freedom wig how do you like it? I'm just really unsure which road I should take :/

Thanks so much!

Amanda,
I just got a biopsy done to make sure it was AA and not lupus. Well my test came back the same as what you have LPP the scarring kind. Like you I only have the hair lose part of it. I know the test says I have LPP but I'm finding are to believe because everything I have read or seen I look like and feel like I have AA. Plus I'm not sure how I have the scarring kind if I have had my hair grow full back many times in my life. Maybe it started as AA and change to LPP over time? I think I may try the plaquinil since the side effects are not as bad. I am too worried to take the corticosteroids. So since I feel that way maybe it's my mind trying to tell me it's a bad idea. Since I don't feel this was about the plaquinil I will give it a try. If it doesn't work I will just go with the wig.
Hey Elaine,I could say that mine is more like AA too! I have been using rogaine almost all over because I am early in the LPP process and not every area of my scalp is scarred, only a small area on the crown.
Have you tried Rogaine? I have had very good results with it. I have always had hair and not gone though the losing all my hair and having it grow back again. I just started thinning about ten years ago.
I was told that for LPP, you get the shots and the Plaquinil only to try and stop the inflammation that causes the scarring. I do think that the treatments are stimulating growth because my hairdresser said that I have lots of new growth on the bottom back of my head and I have never used rogaine there.
LPP seems pretty rare. We ARE in this together. :)
