Do you think your alopecia had anything to do with stress (im bundling anxiety in with stress here).... just a simple yes or no ?

Yes and yes- I was only recently diagnosed with AA, but unfortunately have progress from only 3 patches to about 12-15 + an ophasis pattern (yay).
My doctor has told me that my onset is more than likely due to stress, but unfortunately I won't feel 'unstressed' any time soon. At least for the next 2 months. (I am desperately trying to find a job and finish my dissertation).
I have a feeling that there is a connection (in women especially) with stress and hormones and therefore hair loss. If you are in a constant state of stress your body will create an over production of cortisol (stress hormone usually produced during 'fight or flight'). This overload will present itself through negative effects in your immune system,
