hello friends. could use a little info/insight.... so i was diagnosed last year with AA. lost about 1/4 of my hair... in three large patches. by this summer it had grown back. started losing it again a month later. so far, i have lots of continued shedding and another big spot where the initial one had been. i notice some days there is no itching, no inflammation, no soreness... and i think "thank god, maybe this new attack is done with".... but then the next day, the whole back of my head will be terribly sore, and i think "uh-oh, i'm going to lose more hair again". but then it feels fine again for a few days. what is this back and forth thing? is it all in my head?

also, it's been steadily shedding for over a year. my hair was extremely thick to begin with, but i know by my ponytail that it's probably about half as thick as it once was. how long does it take to lose it all? could i shed for two years until it was all gone or is there just no way of knowing? thanks.

Yup, there's no way to know. I had very concealable AA for 7 years, then it went to AT in the space of about 6 months, then AU within 3 more months. As Aimee says, other people just stay with AA. Good luck...but take it from someone who's been there: it's not the end of the world if it all goes. You'll still be you.
Check out Crown Regals blog about pain....my reply is there too.
Some days better than others.

Hey Claudine,

I'm pretty sure it's not in your head. I get this feeling like I bumped and bruised my head and I get exhausted and sluggish. I take what I think is a 20 minute nap only to find out I was napping for 3-4 hours. That lasts a couple days, then I'm ok for a while. I thinks it's just a nasty little reminder to not get too comfortable.

Can you believe how much hair we have! With all the shedding I've done in the last 4 months, I should be bald. To look straight at me I don't think you'd be shocked, but lift and move my hair around and it's amazing how bald i am underneath. I'm too new to this to tell you how long it could take, but I think it has a mind of it's own and not a timeline.
