Speaking in the Classroom?

Has anyone gone to speak in your child's classroom about Alopecia? I'm doing it tomorrow and I'm kind of nervous. I didn't have time to send away to NAAF for the video, but I think I'm okay for material. I'm just nervous. They're just first and second graders, but they're still a little intimidating!

I haven't spoken to younger aged children at schools, often it is teenagers and tweens I help with. I just try to keep it age appropriate, making sure I have a full understanding of the needs of the child I'm trying to help.

I have a friend in Australia who has just helped a little boy to discuss this matter at school in the age group you are talking of. She did find the Naaf video very helpful, so maybe that is something you could do later on. She kept it very simple, with a simple explanation of what alopecia is, how it's not something you can catch, etc. Keeping the information age appropriate is a must for that age group. I always find children are curious and questions etc. are a great way to get them involved.

I'm sure you will be fine and do a fab job. Let us know how you get on. (don't be nervous - you will do a great job :)).

Just wanted to let you all know that it went really well. They listened really well and were engaged, and they seemed to get it. Things have gotten much better for my son at school - he's playing with all kinds of kids now. I'm very relieved!
