Hello! I am new to this site but have had alopecia areata on and off for 5 years. I kept it under control with cortisone injections for about 4 years but this past year it has been the worst it has been ever and I am 90% bald (with peach fuzz on most of my head = the vellus hair). I tried standard cortisone shots, then tried methotrexate for about two months but got off becuase I was nevous about the side effects. I have been gluten free and pretty much sugar and dairy free for about 6 months. I take biotin, probiotics and wozenzyme as well as alpha lipoic acid. I just recently started squaric acid on November 4th when I got my first sensitization test. Two weeks later I had a huge red mark where we tested so I started the weekly treatments right after that. I'm up to two applications a week and am on week 6 so I am crossing my fingers that in a few weeks I may see something. I am going to try it for four months I think just to give it a fair chance. I have also recently cut out corn and essentially all processed foods so it's kind of like a paleo diet. I figure this can't hurt! After this squaric acid treatment, if this doesn't work I am not sure what I will try or if I'll just stop trying different things. I almost feel like if I'm not trying something I don't feel hopeful at all. Has anyone gotten results from squaric acid after four months? I think that's a good time to give it? Thanks!

Hello, I am also new to this website. I eat 100% plant based ( that means no animal products and little to no processed foods ) it seams to be helping I am having a lot of regrowth! My regrowth also has color so it looks really promising! My Mom has a Facebook page called Food 4 Healing you should check it out! She posts recipes and a lot of other great info. Have a blessed week!

Thanks Allie! That's awesome; I am SO happy to hear about your regrowth! I have a lot of peach fuzz coming in but who knows what will happen. I'll check out your mom's site. Thanks!

I'm on its right now and I've only been doing it for 2 months. Don't stop at 4 months. Give it at least 6 months if you are only applying twice a week. I'm seeing small progress and hope it continues. Still not regrowth all over but its only been 2 months. Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Any redness or itchiness? what strength solution are you using twice a week?

Thanks for responding Jason! That's awesome you are seeing results.. are you seeing peach fuzz or terminal hair? Do you apply it more than twice a week? I have heard that it always takes at LEAST two months and I will be coming up to two months in about two weeks so I keep looking for hair (even though I know it's premature, I can't help it!) I think I'm using the standard amount .01% or it may be the .1% to be honest I am not sure because the lable peeled off. But it is still making my head red and itchy when I apply it so it must be the right amount. Usually the itchiness will wake me up at night and I'll have tiny little blisters but then the next day it dies down and by the end of hte day it's normally just red and pretty tolerable. I've heard that if you take a benadryll at night when you use it it helps the itching but do you think this would mess up the effect of it? Not sure if you've heard that too. I will definitely keep at it for at least six months.. don't have much to lose really.. literally and figuratively :)

Hey Jason! Just wondering how it's going with the squaric acid? When you said you're seeing progress did you mean peach fuzz or do you actually have some vellus hair? I have a lot of peach fuzz which is good I guess but I've had peach fuzz on and off for about a year. I found out I am using the .01%.. hope all is well!

Hey Julie...eye brows are about 70% back and my hair has a lot of peach fuzz. In certain places, I do have actual hair growing, nothing crazy but you can definitely see it. I'm almost at the point where I need to start shaving it but I'm just wearing a hat and letting it go for a while. My eyebrows and head have been getting pretty ready lately. I'm using .5%, a much stronger dose than you are using. I think it's good to start off slow and build your way up to it if you aren't seeing any results. Good luck and if you aren't seeing what you are looking for, consider a higher dose. You do definitely need to be patient with it in order for it to work. I only started seeing results about a few weeks ago and started mid October. How have you been making out? My heads been red and itchy lately. nothing crazy tho. Pls keep me posted, I am optimistic for the both of us!
