I am looking for some opinions and insite...
A new Derm that I went to see this week at Hershey Medical center here in PA who is a Scalp and skin specialist has suggested I try squaric acid treatment.
Has anyone used this treatment and what is your opinion or outcome? I know everyone reacts differently but just trying to see if this is something I want to try.
Thanks

Just curious. I am across these posts and comment of yours to see Dr. Benetson. Is he doing this treatment now? He is my derm and I took him to see my daughter a few years ago and he sent her to Children's
Hospital because he had no more things he could do within his practice. He is a great guy.
Hello, thank you for all the info you supplied through Jason's questions. I had not been back to the derm yet to get going on this as I had surgery. I am a little scared as to trying this as I am worried that it may scar or cause too much irritation. Did you have any of these side effects? Thanks
Redness, and itching, and all the similar. But would last for a day at most every time i got Sadbe (once a week), and now pretty much I don't feel anything anymore. I have no scars, so I cannot tell you about that. It may be a bit more itchy when applied, and for like a minute, but i don't see why it should be itchier in the longer run
Sorry, I cannot help there. But if you keep knocking on enough doors, you'll sooner than later fine one doctor ready to use it (not FDA approved, so some may be reluctant).
GOOD LUCK!
Hi Guillem,
I called that doctor today and he said he does not use squaric acid. Did you do this treatment with him? I'm confused as to why they said they do not use it at his practice. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Jason
Hi Jason,
it is probably true, because as far as I know, he only prescribed it for me, but never applied it. It looked like it was the first time that he prescribed it. The reason for that is that I got a recommendation from my dermatologist at new haven, who could not get any in connecticut. Maybe it could help if you just visited him and talked in person. He is a nice guy overall and very willing to help.
Cheers,
g
Hi G,
Did you start applying it to your whole scalp on 1st treatment or did you work your way up to that? Did you apply it directly to eye brows? Thanks for help.
JP
hi
whole scalp, 1 layer (increasing to two after a few weeks) according to the dermatologist who had used it many times before. eyebrows too. no eyelashes, though :)
good luck! and keep me posted
Ok great, that's what my doc said too. They said to apply it 2x a week to start and then every week add 1 more time so by the 6th week I will be doing it everyday. They prescribed me .2%. I'll keep u posted. Thanks again.
2x per week & .2% is quite strong! I started with 0.001% and got up to 0.01% and only occasionally 0.02%. and at most once a week. Ask them if they can start low, there's no need to apply such a strong dose to your body right away. (I'm just saying what my dermatologist in Singapore would say :)
Cheers, and keep me posted

Thanks G. How long did it take for you to get a rash? For the sensitization it took 36 hours and it lasted about 36 hours. I applied it to my full scalp last night for first time but have not gotten a rash yet. I'm not that itchy either. I did get a red rash during the sensitization with 2% though. Seems to take some time. Fingers crossed.
