I just saw my derm today for something other than my AU and of course our discussion lead into the alopecia realm. He discussed with me a new drug that is being used for the treatment if psoriasis called Stelara - has anyone heard of it and used it for AA, AT, or AU? I'm just beginning my research on it now and thought I would put it out there to all of you on Alopcecia World.

Rebecca,

There has been a couple of post on Alopecia World regarding researches from Columbia who discovered 8 genes causing AA. What they suggested was that AA was more closely associated to rheumatoid arthritis and Type 1 diabetes than psoriasis. Most drugs used to treat psoriasis failed in patients with AA.

So the news is since so much work has been done in researching drugs for those auto immune diseases such as RA and Types 1 diabetes, this gives scientist a sort of fast track to investigate possible drug treatments for AA.
