for the last month I have been experiencing a very sudden and unexplained hair loss. I already have several bald patches some of them large. All my life I have had very thick hair and there is no family history of hair loss. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm scared and stressed and I don't know what to do. My hair is falling out all the time but worse when I wash my hair. Is this normal and how long does this excessive hair fall last? I had thick hair before how long before it all goes? Sorry for so many questions but I guess it's early days for me.

Yes, i started experiencing really consistent hair loss at the age 47.  This was one of the symptoms of peri-menopause. I have my "monthly" just the same, but there's other things that kicked at 50, i.e., hair loss, weight gain, hot flashes, and mood swings.

I counteract most of the symptoms with homeopathic remedies, evening primrose Oil, chaste berry, DIM, Don quai, a lot of great supplements on Swansons Vitamins.com. I also stay in tune with what i eat, and exercise daily.  I have to exercise 10x more than i did when i was 20 years old to keep the weight down.

But nothing stopped the hair loss.  From what i've learned, DIM caused more hair shedding for me (some people swear that it grows their hair) - but, it keeps my periods regular with less cramping.

I think, you might be in the same boat.  Possible Peri-menopause..
