Synthetic wigs
I just got my first synthetic wig and it is a bit puffy at the crown. Does anyone know how I can flatten the sides a bit without ruining the wig, or if it is at all possible?

Well what i would suggest doing is to go to a hairdresser that is experienced with cutting wigs because they should be able to cut out some of the shorter layers on top that make the crown puffy or even everything out in some other way. Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of things that you can do. Other than that the only thing I could think of would be to either stick it under something heavy or slightly dampen it while you are styling it.

Funny you should suggest that, Dielle, because after I sent off this question I spritzed the wig with leave in conditioner (for synthetic wigs) and put a tight cap on over the wig on my head for a few hours and it seemed to go down a bit. Since my other wig is human hair it is also a matter of getting used to the difference. Thanks for your advise! Stephanie

They can but it is usually best to get it done by somebody that has some experience with wigs because those who aren't tend to get a little nervous and can make mistakes. The person that I use never cut a wig before me but I trusted her and just told her to take it slow since you can't add hair back and I have always been happy with it, so it just depends. If you have a hairdresser that you really like and trust and who you think will do a good job then you should be okay.

I know this is an old post...maybe you since know...a wig shop can steam the top of your wig so it is not sooo poufy...

Thanks. That wig lasted no more than three months, and I wore it in addition to my human hair wig (mostly at home or under a hat when I went walking). I had other trouble, too. Burned it a few times on the oven, and it got really gnarly at the nape early on. Anyway, I am loving my Follea and will never go back to synthetic though I see lots of people on this site enjoy their wigs. Thanks for the response, Lexi.

Can I ask how much the Follea was and cap style..?? I believe they might be out of my price range...I have seen their site...I always wonder...where do they get all the donors of HH out there for all of the sites?? Just a thought to ponder!! Thanks

That's a good question because the hair is unbelievable. It cost $4,000. It is made so well that the hair doesn't come out (I have lost only a few since getting my wig) and the cap is breathable, lightweight, and without lumps. The highlighting is darker at the root and all the colors are mixed in so that it looks totally natural.
I went to an Alopecia event in NYC, and at the time had only bought a wig topper (my first, for $1,500) and then a full human hair wig (for $2,000). I asked around as I thought that was pricey but learned that those costs were pretty reasonable, for the area. Much as I loved my wig, it was lumpy and the hair was thicker than my natural hair, even with a great cut (for $500). This wig will last for many years with good care and over time will cost less than constantly replacing and then having to cut wig after wig. I bought it very long so I will have the option to change the look many times. All that said, I am lucky to have been able to pay that price up front.
Do you have any hair? I haven't looked at your page so do not know what your situation is. People without hair seem to love their Freedom wigs. Even if I lost all my hair, I would still wear this, just replace the little combs with tape. I really don't feel it on my head which is just so nice.

Stephanie...thanks...yes that is surely pricey. Just viewed your page...small world, you are in CT...I am from CT, "the Valley" if you know where that is ....Ansonia,Derby,Seymour,Shelton...a valley gurl...lol...I am now a Florida gurl...Thanks for the response. You are lucky to be so close to the city, as so many choices there.
