tattoo---pigments

I went to have my eyebrows tattooed today and as it turns out she wouldnt do them until I got sign off from my infant sons doctor that the pigments containing iron oxide were ok. But she did draw on how she would do my eyebrows and they look great. However, I am wondering if everyone is using iron oxide or going with something else. My research online shows this iron oxide to be a little controversial.
