I have recently started wearing scarves at work. One day it caused a huge up roar... it made me really upset. I have, however, come to the conclusion that I just want to tell everyone flat out whats going on. My work has agreed that it would be a good idea. I'm now trying to create a flyer of sorts to make my co-workers aware of what is going on. Does anyone have any advice on how to approach that? I want it to be informative but also light. Maybe with some interesting facts or something. And I don't want it to sound like I'm doing a poor me thing. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Hi Megan,

We wrote a snappy brochure that speaks to the issues and challenges that women with alopecia areata think about. It's a way to remind women that they're not alone having those feelings and it gives other people an idea of our challenges. I'll drop a bunch in the mail to you. I've sent you an email to confirm the address I have.

Or send me a private email to thea@baldgirlsdolunch.org if you need anything else.

I would just tell the yappiest big mouth in the office and watch it spread like wild fire, less formal than a flier—and a lot less work!
It can work. I've often said that to get a whole community of people in the loop, you just tell the one person who you know will tell everyone else. And if there's one who can never keep a secret, just tell them in pseudo-confidence, "its a secret".
My AA is just starting up again (lost 50% of the hair on my head from age 13-17, now I am 24) and I have told several of my co-workers directly (The ones I care about). It actually made me feel really good to tell them. It is going to be part of my healing. Right now my bald spot is small and covered with hair but I think I am going to cut it short and expose it (all talk as of right now :) Unfortunately, I don't have a plan on how to field all the rest of my co-workers' questions but I hope to get to a place where I don't get embarrassed when I talk about it (I always blush big time.) Good luck, I think a flyer is a great idea!
