I have been wearing wigs for 14 years! Wow.

My first few wigs were pricey. I've worn $300 wigs and $20 wigs. Human and synthetic. Every color under the sun! (Okay, not orange or yellow. Maybe some day) I have settled somewhat comfortably for the last 10 years on $30 wigs. I'm partial to the Sis brand at the moment. More than anything because of color and style options. They die so fast! A month is pushing it. I go around bald occasionally but have mostly stopped. I love wigs- but again, they are just so temporary.

Does anyone else deal with this frustration? The knots that form on your back and the eventual crunchy ends that turn into Velcro dreadlocks. Ugh. I've tried fabric softener, detanglers, wig shampoos, combing vs brushing- nothing seems to make a dramatic difference. I've scoured forums and found tips on cosplay sites, but then those wigs are for occasional use and don't have to go through the wear and tear of everyday use.

I've looked at the more expensive wigs but where are the fun color options or styles? Maybe I want to have a natural looking pink wig? Frustration. My next attempt is making my own. I have access to the supplies at my local wig shop, so I'm going to give it a go. Not sure if it will be for me. I do keep my old ones, mainly because I do have a use for them so they aren't going to waste.

I know wigs aren't meant to be forever, but has anyone else found something that really works for keeping them looking nice? Does anyone else deal with these cheaper wigs and let out that sigh while brushing when you realize another one has bit the dust?

I buy a new , cheap wig every three weeks. When I was young and poor I had to make those wigs last a long time. They were much pricier then and by the end of six months they looked horrible! Even my very expensive suction wig ended up with alopecia ! LOL

I save the environment in other ways. Unfortunately, there is a landfill somewhere full of my cast off wigs. EEK!

That did not answer your question or help you in any way. I've been wearing wigs for 27 years. If there is a solution, I can't wait to hear it!

Mine wig is around 2 year old and it still looks awesome. i bought from https://shop.wigsbuy.com

Hi Lexie
I have had AU for the last 5 years.Initially I went through wigs like underwear.
Always human hair and usually around $300- $400.

Initially they would look good for a month or so and then become (ratty)tangled around the neck area.Needing to be constantly combed through.
I was so upset.

I finally found a couple that worked well.
Now,a $300 wig can last over one year.
Washing every 3 days.
If you are near any Urban areas of major cities in the US,there are many shops that
sell great wigs.
it is also important to connect with a seasoned, honest and experienced sales associate, who can assist you with your concerns.

What brand, human hair?  Where do you get them and what length? I like long hair but live in AZ and it's so hot. I do not look good with shorter hair, but I can't wait to take off the synthetic wigs, as soon as I am inside?  What kind of base? I need something with a cool base and I would like to be able to  easily remove it at night, when I sleep  laurenseav  The shops near me charge a fortune. The internet seems to be the best, or cheapest. I need something long, cool and easily removable?   Does this exist?

Hi Lauren
I'm at work now,but I will let you know when I get out today.
The one I'm currently wearing for the last eight mints cost $400.
Three weeks ago I added highligjts at a local hair salon.

I taped it down and she worked on it on my head like it was my own hair.
OMG... I get compliments numerous times per day.
My hair looks better that most of the women I come into contact with each day.

I have been buying long quality synthetics. I have some hair, but not much. Where do you get quality wigs for cheap?  human hair, or synthetic? I need at least 14 inches or 16. I want to be able to take it off at night. help  None of them last long and I am broke  laurenseav  The shops charge 3 times the cost on the internet. HELP

susan

would you please share your information.  I'm interested myself.

I've gone through the same journey as the OP.  i like wearing long curly wigs.  After about 3 weeks, they lose their curl pattern and become fuzzy. I wind up walking around the house with something that resembles a large furry animal hitching a ride on my back.

Hey!

Oh my gosh I am SO glad you brought this up! I am so sick of wigs being a) expensive, b) wearing out and c) looking so fake!! They are so thick and shiny and then they go from that to totally ratty.... I have finally switched to wearing human hair, and I thought that it'd last much longer, but to be honest my human hair piece is also wearing out after just 2-3 months which I can't believe.

I honestly don't know where to turn. I've had alopecia on and off for 25 years and can not find a solution. Supposedly Follea is amazing, but I don't have 5k lying around...

Can people post their favorite, most realistic pieces? I'd love to see what everyone is buying!

Thanks for sharing out and sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I can definitely sympathize. :(

I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing me extol the virtues of my human hair system from HairDirect.com, but you asked, and that's what has worked best for me.

Dominique are you buying the brand name wigs?

I went on their website and notice that they make high definition caps and wigs as well.

Sorry I'm sending this from my kindle.

I use their full-lace bonded-on hair systems, and wear them 24/7. I get them serviced and reattached every 3-weeks, and get a new system every 3 months.
