Thought I had MPB or something normal, now I'm thinking this is scarring!???

So I thought i had pretty normal hair loss, relatively. Thought I'd need a buzz cut one day soon, and full bald a few days after that. But it just really doesn't seem like what other people have. The symptoms aren't that obvious but I am often itchy, my scalp does sometimes seem red, and i do occasionally get a pimple here and there on my scalp within my hair. Heres a bunch of pics, I'll be going to a doctor in a few weeks but need to know if this is more serious and I shouldn't wait. I've been aware of my hair loss for about a year now but at this point it just really seems different than normal- non scarring hair loss. Do I have scarring/cicatricial alopecia???  https://imgur.com/a/Fw3jV     scroll

Hi, I have scarring alopecia areata. I think that the fact that it is itchy is suggestive that it MIGHT be scarring. Only a doctor can say for sure. My head used to burn and radiate heat to the point where I would need an icepack to relieve the discomfort. However in your pictures it looks diffuse, not like focused spots or patches that are completely smooth. That makes me think it could be something else. I was told the steroid injections would not help me because there is no follicle left to stimulate, and that's within 2 days of the burning sensation. Does that mean you should not wait the week for the doctor? I just don't know.. because if it is scarring they will likely tell you there was nothing they could do anyway. Let us know how it goes.

I also could not find out much about scarring alopecia on the internet. The doctor said the biopsy results indicated Alopecia Areata with scarring, and the sample was taken from a freshly bald area.

The patches that I have lost did come out suddenly, in large chunks, all at once. It's totally smooth in the lost patches, and my scalp would shed tiny white dots that turned out to be the actual hair follicle. The patches that have gone have never had any regrowth, no baby hairs, no follicles to work with, nothing. The hair that I still have is still the silky smooth, straight, healthy-looking texture it always was. It was pretty hard having fistfuls of gorgeous hair fall out. Nobody mentioned LPP to me and I honestly don't really know what it is.

Thanks so much! It's nice to talk to someone that understands. I agree completely that you have to fight them, it's a lot of work. I'm still fighting for my health in other ways, and doctors are so frustrating. They make you jump through useless hoops before doing what you know you needed in the first place.

Another interesting thing about the type of alopecia I have (also why i trust that the biopsy was correct that it's scarring) Is there are slight indents where the hair is gone, like my scalp has lost density. When you run your fingers over it, the area dips. It doesn't show in photographs or I'd show you. Anyone else have this symptom?
