First off, I want to say thanks for allowing me to be a part of this community. Being a licensed barber, I want to pass on a few tips about shaving, especially first time shavers. If you decide to do the shave yourself, PLEASE, and I cannot stress this enough, use a good razor. I find the Gillette Fusion Pro Glide to be one of the best. You want a razor that "glides" and doesn't pull the hair.

Second, preparation. I always wrap my clients head with a hot, moist towel. This stimulates the scalp and helps release the hair as the razor glides over it. Next, use a gel type shaving cream. I personally use Aveeno. It cost a little more, but like my Grandfather use to say, "You get what you pay for." I like to put water in a pot, place in on the stove, put the can in the water, and warm it to a nice comfortable level. Be careful not to "boil" the water or you will be cleaning up a mess. I promise you this from experience!

Take the hot towel off your head and cover the scalp with the hot gel. As you begin to shave, try your best to go with the grain, especially if it's the first time a razor has been in the scalp. As time goes by, the scalp with "toughen up" and allow you to shave in any direction. Another good point is to keep the scalp moist while shaving. If it gets to dry, put more shaving cream on it.

After you get it smooth all over, place another hot towel on your head. Allow this towel to stay on your head for at least a minute or so. Also, a hot shower will help, but do not put any shampoo or soap on the scalp. Dry the scalp and put a mild lotion on it.

What a weird post!!!!!!

Why do you say it's weird?

While I appreciate your tips on shaving, I'm still left with the less than comforting feeling that you have your own agenda.
Alopecia Areata is a disease that most of us have an issue or two with. I don't think the vast majority of women or men for that matter would appreciate this sort of "Treat"
Just saying....

Agree totally Jeff and a profile should be just that not a description of how you find "bald women sexy" its not showing respect or empathy to those who suffer from this terrible disease. Just saying like you.

I still consider the decision to shave off remaining hair and the act of doing so quite personal and intimate, and have only let one person ever cut or shave my alopecia hair...and that was after a whole year of getting to know the person.

I fully understand and by all means, this is not for everyone. Just a tip to anyone who might be interested.

Your very welcome.

Its weird because this is a support group and to me the words "sexy" etc are not used as a support. If you have an agenda that involves dating to to a web site where it is acceptable not here.
