My dermatologist has explained to me a lot of the treatments are about 25% chance of working. With every treatment there is a chance of side affects, such as skin cancer, kidney problems etc. am I giving up hastily to think why give myself other problems to try and solve a problems when the odds are not on my side?

Hi

There is no known cure for alopecia at the moment.  Some things will grow hair (like steroids) but the side effects from them is not acceptable to most people to try and retain their hair.  Other treatments and medications are as yet really quite unproven.  Alopecia is very unpredictable, it often does go into natural remissions and sadly nobody knows why.  So your alopecia may reconcile itself by itself.

The choice to take medications is a personal one, but make sure you are fully educated about the odds of things working etc against the risks.  Your doctor sounds like he/she is trying to be honest with you, listen and ask more questions.
