My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Alopecia Totalis in May, 2012. Since we live outside New York City, we went to some of the best doctors from Columbia Presb., NYU, to Einstein Medical Center. The only possible treatments were steroid injections into her scalp or topical steroids. We opted for topical steroids, but we saw no success. Every day she would cry as clumps of her hair were falling out. By the end of June, she lost 60% of her hair in just 2 months. I made her a promise that I would try everything to help her. The 1st week of July, I dedicated to finding "other" treatments. I came across a doctor from Israel. His name is Dr. Shmuel Gonen who treats alopecia with a topical treatment he created called "Hair Up". I sent him an email and by the end of the day he called me directly. He wanted to see pictures of my daughter to see if she would be a good candidate for his treatment, and she was. I ordered immediately and by mid July, I received his treatment. I started immediately, and in 2 weeks I started seeing results. It is now September 8, and the results are amazing! Not only is her hair growing back, but it has stopped falling out. She also takes Biotin pills (over the counter) and Hair Essential pills (from Natural Wellbeing online)every day.
As of now, her hair is growing and so is her confidence as she enters Kindergarten. I cannot tell you how happy we all are. We are aware that she will have this struggle most likely her entire life, but for now, things are good.

Hey Danielle,

I am so happy for your daughter and pray she will stay alopecia free. I hate having alopecia, but for children, OMG really hard on them. Alopecia is sooo unpredictable that we must prepare for the worst all the time. Safeguard her mental and emotion health now by preparing her just in case alopecia returns. Read some of our stories and you will see how unpredictable alopecia is. Our hair grows and comes out time and time again. Some of us have been waiting years for regrowth and then alopecia returns. So while we praying that baby girl will completely recover and never see alopecia again, we have to work on other things. There are children books that teach about alopecia. Bring her to our site (A.W) there are pictures of children who look just like her with smiles on their faces, but completely bald. Early education and building her confidence now is so important.

Thank you! I am hoping to start her in a support group to help build her self esteem, because as you know, this will most likely happen again.

Stay Strong Danielle. We are here for you too. :-)

That is wonderful, so happy for your child, it is good to know that hope exist, there is also a company in California called Aidooaid, my friend had A U for years and now she has a full head of hair, she is featured on their website actually.

It's so nice to know that there are some treatments that can help!

Yes, you are right, I haven't giving up this fight, after seeing what it did for Sarah I'm trying this product.

That is wonderful!! I just went to the website - it does sound awesome. I have lost my hair when I was years old & haven't had any ever since, I wonder if the product would also work for me. How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking? I can't seem to find a price on the website. You can also private message me if you want.
Thank you!!!

Thank you Sophia for the question about the price. Danielle please let us know the price; private message does not allow all of us brothers and sisters to know all the information. Thank you for sharing all the information.

The price was around $500 for a 3 month treatment which is very reasonable compared to other treatments. If you are interested, there is a link to email the doctor on that website. I emailed him and told him about my daughters situation. A person from their office emailed me back by the next day. She wanted pictures of my daughter and a list of treatments we were trying. By the next day the doctor called me and told me that my daughter would be a good candidate for his treatment. Since alopecia is so unpredictable, he could not guarantee results, but I did feel that he was the one person who truly understood alopecia and has dedicated his time to find a treatment. He does not sell to just anyone and wants to make sure that the person is a good candidate. The results are pretty amazing. Her hair will probably fall out again, but at least I know that we are not helpless. Every dermatologist that we visited in the last 3 months told us that we have to let the alopecia run its course. He was the only one that gave us hope. I can't say it's going to work for everyone, but we were willing to take that chance.
