Hi Everyone, I am new to this site in hopes to finding some answers from people who have this condition versus the medical doctors who don't always believe natural remedies versus medication over the counter.
If you can cut and paste these questions and give your answers it will be highly appreciated and hopefully helpful in answering or eliminating some of my theories. My answers will follow...

1)Do you or your family member have Alopecia Areata or Alopecia Universalis?
2)Where you or your family member under ultra violate lights when you where born.
3)Have you tried any natural remedies and where did you find out about it?
4)Did the natural remedy help hair growth?
5)Have you heard about any other treatments then cortisone cream or injections?
6)As a child how where you treated? Or if it's your child who has it, how are they treated?
7)What's your response to people who ask you about it?

1)Do you or your family member have Alopecia Areata or Alopecia Universalis?
My Son has Alopecia Areata, he is 3 years old now and he's been diagnosed when he was about 18 months old.
2)Where you or your family member under ultra violate lights when you where born.
He was under ultra violate lights for 3 days after birth, I even had to nurse him under the lights.
3)Have you tried any natural remedies and where did you find out about it?
Not yet.
4)Did the natural remedy help hair growth?
5)Have you heard about any other treatments then cortisone cream or injections?
No.
6)As a child how where you treated? Or if it's your child who has it, how are they treated?
He does not notice anything at this moment. Family members don't bring the topic in front of him and for his age group they do not notice it as something different. I am worried how kids will treat him once he goes to school. I shaved his head once and the patches showed and a lady in the mall goes why would you cut his hair like that. I was shocked how blunt she was I held my breath and said he has a condition and walked away. I was so furious of how rude she came out with her question. Where's the sympathetic way of asking>?
7)What's your response to people who ask you about it?
I try to explain that it's the immune system that is confused and hits the hair cells. I get the confused look but that's what it is ;o)

Hi,
1. no, no one else in my family has AA, my maternal grandmother had leukemia which could have caused a recessive gene malfunction in my dad and thereby in me
2. I was born 7 wks premature in 1972 so was in an incubator for 2 weeks, not sure if that was that type of lighting or not back then
3. only prayer
4. no, but it did help me deal with the lack of hair
5. I tried all kinds of ointmnents, topical liquids, shots, and prednisone, but never kept any results, the immune suppression treatments now are supposed to help but only so long as the treatments are on going and once they stop the AA usually returns and makes the body much more susceptible to other illnesses
6.the AA showed up when I was 12 and I had times thru my teen yrs that I was talked about, stared at and asked rude ??? by some but there where just as many if not more who accepted me and loved me for me not my hair situation
7. when I was a younger it was denial, but as I get older (I have had AA now AU for 24 yrs) I just mention it myself and people are much more comfortable now that I am comfortable with it
Blessings to you!! Lori
HI

1)Do you or your family member have Alopecia Areata or Alopecia Universalis?
My daughter has had AU and everything in between for the last six years. There is a family history of Auto immune conditions in both sides of my husbands and my family, thyroid conditions, aa, asthma, eczema, psoriasis. All mild and quite contollable - but still difficult for the person dealing with it.
2)Where you or your family member under ultra violate lights when you where born.
She wasn't
3)Have you tried any natural remedies and where did you find out about it?
I've tried homeopathy and nauturopathy, made my daughter feel ok but didn't bring back hair.
4)Did the natural remedy help hair growth?
No.
5)Have you heard about any other treatments then cortisone cream or injections?
No
6)As a child how where you treated? Or if it's your child who has it, how are they treated?
My daughter has been treated well and has a good set of friends and support people in her life. Bullying and bad behaviour from others has been minimal.
7)What's your response to people who ask you about it?
She tells it how it is - She has alopecia areata, and sometimes not a hair on her body. She prefers to wear a hairpiece - she loves her life.

Hope that helps
