I have a wig that is lacefront and monotop.  Basically lacefront means that the edge of the wig (from ear to ear or temple to temple) is constructed of a fine lace from which tiny hairs are individually tied, making the edge of the wig look like a very natural hairline!  Monotop is usually found in the top area of the wig where you part it, and its individual hairs tied to the material and you can part it in any direction!  Its really cool.  I'm not sure what hand tied wigs are but I think they're hairs that are individually tied to the material throughout the entire wig cap, so they're the most natural looking (and most expensive).

Hand tied wigs can go for ventilation on a lace are it can be hand tied as handmade/machine weft to a wig cap. I am a wig designer in I make handmade wigs sew-in on a wig cap not machine weft. Just take a look at my website in look at my information/work http://www.cssensationalwigsnextension.weebly.com in tell me what you think.

Thanks
Please check out the www.wigs.com website this gives you a careful description and photos of the differences in caps it will show you exactly what this a means. I get much of my info on www.wigsupport.com. Also wigsbypattispearls is excellent and has videos on how to wash, wear and style your wigs. If you look at these 3 sites you will be totally informed. Good luck

Thanx a lot Debs. I have a monofilament wig of natural hair for a year, slightly damaged in parting, so I have to buy another one.

Hi

I'll do my best to help.  Lace front wigs are wigs that are often stuck down on your head using glue or tape.  They are mostly handtied, but can be a combination wig which will mean it is handtied in the front then moves into wefts for the back and sides.  They are reasonable natural but there are a few things you should look for when thinking of buying them. Human hair type will be an important factor as will the quality of the handtieing.  Most lace front wigs are made with processed human hair, which can sometimes have issues with knotting and not looking like natural growing hair.  Sometimes processed human hair is covered with a silicone rinse (which makes it look silky and natural looking), but this does wash off after a couple of washes, often leaving people with a difficult wig to deal with with...so when you start looking do ask what type of human hair they are using in your choice.  The other type of hair available is 100% unprocessed virgin human hair (if manufactured well this type of hair looks and behaves like your growing hair), but it is expensive.  It really depends on your needs as to which will be the best choice for you.

A monotop is a wig that looks like the hair is growing from the head around the part area.  It usually is just over the tope of your head...some are better than others.  So, work out what you need.

A hand tied wig is a wig that is hand tied.  There are also many variations of this as well.  I don't believe all hand tying is equal.  Some is better than others.  With hand tying you will always get a return hair.  This can be problematic as to stop tangling this hair either has to be processed (to remove the cuticle), so excessive tangling doesn't occur or it has to be cut very short which gives a prickly feel to the base of your wig.  This type of attachment method has been around since the seventeenth century and has not changed markedly.  With handtied pieces you must be careful with washing, products you use when washing and swimming....as knots can and do undo causing shedding and maintenance issues. Tangling is another thing that can occur with this attachment method.

Hope this info helps.
