Vitamin D Deficiency Affects Genes for Cancer, Autoimmune Disorders
Disorders

A study has linked vitamin D deficiency with an increased risk for cancer and autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis MS, and lupus. Researchers found, through mapping vitamin D receptor binding throughout the human genome, that vitamin D deficiency is a major environmental factor in increasing the risk of developing these disorders.

This Lene Andersen article makes me think our avoidance of outdoor exposure and sun activities, and our use or cortisone steroids, may make alopecia worse. Search this article and read all sections. Alopecia genes have been linked to these other condition genes (see 2010 research article in Discussions and my blogs).--TG

Hey tall girl i posted a post on this earlier i also found inwas defiecient in vitamin d! And have found countless websites about success with treating hairloss wwith vitamin d my dr suggested 5000 mg twice a day and to get re tested in 6 months funny because my derm never even tested me for this my gyno did! My hair seems to be growing more falling out less and my nails are getting stronger so in time we will see! :)

interesting.  I was deficient in vitamin D and needed a prescription for the same amount.  I never thought it might be related to alopecia.

Maybe a suggestion would be to read the toxicity statement on this document. To me, 5000 mg is kinda high http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D

@ willow i know ive read but i got blood tested and i was extremely low i was so deficiant it was more than half so im under a drs dosage and only for 6 months till i get retested
I had alopecia totalis for 3 years two years ago all my hair started coming back. I believe it was a vitamin D deficiency and me working outdoors with no hat on. some how i feel this was the reason I got my hair back. Eric
