Hello All!
Help help! I have a synthetic wig for the first time - new to the wig world. And I wash it but it never comes out smooth - its always all frizzy and knotty! Any tips? I feel like I have only had it 2 months - I cant already need a new one right?
It is a Rene of Paris...thought they lasted longer. Any tips on how to get it smooth again?
Your all the best! Thanks!

I cannot imagine why your ROP wig is doing this. When you wash it, are you just gently swishing it through a basin of water with wig shampoo in it? And then again swishing it through clean water to get any shampoo residue out, then again, the same process with a good conditioner for wigs? And before you wash, are you gently getting any tangles out of the wig with your fingers, then a wide toothed comb? I have heard that you can use a steamer to get it smooth again, but I have never used a steamer, but there should be some information on You tube. Or Google it. I really need to get a steamer to get the poofy wigs to lay flatter.
Thanks Lexi!
These are helpful tips - I have not been using a conditioner on top of the shampoo. I hope that may make a difference. I have heard about the steamer too - I must be honest it freaks me out a bit with the heat. Have you ever heard of using a tiny bit of fabric softener?
Yes, I believe fabric softner or conditioner will work nicely. I have used both. Just swish it rinsed really good. Yes, I agree with the comment by Rose. Maybe contact whomever you purchased from, or attempt to contact ROP directly. I read on here of people who claim their wigs don't last very long. Again, I agree with Rose, with good care, they should last, esp. a short style. The longer ones, yes, they frizz up in the back from the heat from the back of your neck.
I wore synthetice wigs for years. Wearing them full time, they lasted at LEAST a year, and I did not buy expensive ones. Washing them is so easy. warm sink full of water. put in some shampoo. swish swish. rinse out the shampoo. although they don't absorb conditioner, i also put some in the next sink full of water to reduce static as i lived in a dry climate. then rinse out the shampoo. blot dry with a towel. the trick is to NEVER comb or brush them while wet. I would hang mine on a hanger, put in the the tub area overnight. Next day just brush it out and it would be right back to the style you started with. I have never heard of a synthetic wig having knotts. And the only time mine got frizzy was when i got too close to the heat of the oven, or just kept them way too long. Did you use some kind of styling product or heated styling device? Rene of Paris is a good brand..for synthetics. if none of this helps, call them. those wigs last a LONG time, with proper care. and no exposure to HEAT or STEAM. hope this helps. or if you do have it steamed... have that done by a proffesional wig person as you can ruin it real quick with too much steam.
KStew, can I just add use cold water not hot or even warm... cold. I don't move my wigs in the water. Cold water with wig shampoo already in it. Put wig in. Leave it for a few minutes. To rinse just place in bowl of cold water and keep changing water until all shampoo is gone. Then cold water and wig conditioner (or fabric conditioner) put wig in take out and let dry on anything really , wig stand or a tall bottle. Once it is completely dry use your wide toothed wig comb and that's it. Good luck.
Thanks Debs - This is a helpful process, hope my next wash comes out smoothly!
Usually washing it shouldn't make it frizzy. I agree with Lexi. Also, I would suggest that you use a wig shampoo/conditioner. I have heard people offer different tips on getting it smooth again on wigsupport.com. You should join. It is a great website. Also, what length is the wig? The longer the wig, the less amount of time that you will get wear out of it. Unfortunately, the long styles get frizzy & tangle very quickly.
Thanks! Yea - I was thinking that the length has some to do with the frizz and tangle. I find that even after a few hours of wear it gets pretty tangled. Thanks!
I went to wigsupport.com. guess I am not too web savy cuz I could not read anything or figure out how to navigate. maybe the site is more intuitive once you "join" ??? Do you have to join to actually read anything?
YES...joining is easy....do it. It will take awhile to get to know how to navigate this site, if you are not savy. Trust me. I am not, and it took me a little bit and I thought I didn't like it, but I do now. You will get used to it quickly. I like this group and navigation in AW better, I must say, but now I also like WS.
