Hi everyone!
I started going to the gym a couple of weeks ago and I've been wearing my wig because I feel very self-conscious and embarrassed without it... I'm more or less okay with that but I was wondering how you go to the gym/for a run or whatever.
And this might seem a but gross but do the rest of you with AU get annoyed by the sweat on your face? I have to wipe it off with a towel quite often because I have no eyebrows or eyelashes to keep the drops from getting into my eyes :/ I know there is nothing to be done about this but I was wondering there are other people out there with the same problem.
I hope you're all having a nice day!

Hahaha I might not use the headbands but thank you so much, I hadn't thought about that! I'll probably get some arm bands! (:

Are you wearing human or synthetic wig? If synthetic I have heard from our clients that have switched from their synthetic wig to our human hair that it is a lot cooler.
Hi
I think exercising no matter what is great...so congrats on getting that done.
Wigs no matter who makes them or how they are made are hotter than no hair or your own growing hair...sadly that is just a fact. I'm an advocate of Freedom Wigs, and I know many wearers that run marathons and exercise regularly in them. The big plus for this type of wig is that the hair and cap don't become soggy with sweat and body oils...they are easily cleaned and very secure. (Vapour Permeable cap keeps you comfortable in everyday life...but you will sweat if exercising hard... as you should, that is doing good stuff for you). :)
I believe the advise above is good stuff...arm bands to wipe your face etc. will help.

Hi. When I first had alopecia..after about 5 months or so I decided to go back to the gym and wore a wig w/a cap (hat) to feel more secure and thinkin it was less noticeable. That was pure torture!!!! Luckily, that didn't last too long....so I started exercising at home to DVD's and I run often outside so I felt good about that. When I ran..I wore dry fit hats and/or cotton bandanas. I didn't go to the gym for quite some time..maybe 8-9 months and decided to go back to my group fitness classes. When I did, I only went wearing my cotton bandanas. I had plenty of fun looking ones with bright colors and cute patterns to match my workout clothes. It looked stylish too and I'll never forget how awesome I felt after I did that for about a week! At first, of course I got some looks from those that had seen me previously and probably thought I had cancer and why I didn't show up to the gym. Once I revealed it to some...it was huge relief too. Nobody ever cared, noticed and I felt great and I look back and can't even believe I wore a wig to workout!!! Go w/the cotton bandanas!!! They are great and many people wear bandanas to the gym anyhow. I hope this helped!! Exercise should be bout stress relief and not to stress us out. Good Luck!
I don't go to a gym, but I run, and would never wear a wig to exercise if I could help it. Why choose to be hotter and sweatier? (OK, I know there are many reasons to choose to wear hair, but none of them are currently convincing enough to my seasoned self to make me want to wear a wig while exercising.) I also would wear a bandana (for running I wear a hat for sun protection or warmth if it is cold), though I recognize that there is a risk someone might think I was bald as a fashion choice. :)
I agree with the bandana idea. When I walk outside I usually wear a hat, but when I do get to the gym (which took me a long time to do without the hair and trying how to figure out how I wanted to make it work, wig vs. nothing, vs. hat, vs. what?) then I figured the bandana would be best, and it works for me. I have not ventured into classes yet, but go in, do my treadmill work, and leave. It seems to be OK.
I actually am relieved summer is over.....that was more difficult for me, humidity, pool, being outside. I used to love summer. All of this is easier in colder weather.
I know how you feel! When I was younger I didn't use to wear a wig because I still had most of my hair but I hated summer because I couldn't hide my bald spots when my hair was wet and I felt so self-conscious and awkward ugh I don't even want to think about it.
And now that I wear a wig summers feel way too hot and I can't wait to get home and take it off :p
Thank you all for the helpful answers! I go to the gym at my university so I'm not sure I'l start wearing a bandana just yet, because some people might recognise me and I don't feel comfortable with people who I'm not close with know about my Alopecia and I don't feel like explaining people :/ I think I'll keep on wearing a wig for now and start using tennis arm bands. I'm really happy for you all, though! Hopefully it won't be too long before I feel confident enough to exercise without my wig (:
Take your time and just do what's comfortable to you :)
I wear a bandana but that's just for the sweat :) Otherwise I'd probably just go without
