I was just wondering what blood tests I should have run to be sure that my son really does have alopecia areata. He is 2 and a half and we noticed a bald spot a few weeks ago, in the front by his hairline. It doesn't exactly look like a round patch to be exact since it is just in the front of his head by his forehead. It does seem to be growing though and happening in the same spot on the other side. I know we should test thyroid for sure but what other tests should I make sure the doctors run. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should definately test thyroid as well as his iron levels. We also did an allergy test for my daughter and we found out that she has a severe milk and egg allergy. There was no indication whatsoever that she may have an allergy to milk and egg so when we found this out it was a shocker... but it definately could have contributed to her alopecia. I hope this helps... good luck with everything.
Once i learned that i had alopecia totalis i took a trip down to MD Anderson where they ran every blood test possible on me, so i know this blood test routine. For sure test Thyroid and Iron levels, and for sure get every allergy in the book tested. This isnt blood test, but make sure he eats a lot of protein, i am 15 and eat about 1.5 times as much protein as a girl my age should, and i am regrowing hair so that helps!
also: cortisol test and lupis panel lead my derm to some interesting discoveries about my alopecia so check those out too!
