About 2 months ago I got a rash on my head that was super itchy and cosisted of bumps (acne like). (Around this time I notice my hair was coming out more.) I had this for about 2 weeks or so and just chalked it up to stress, shampoo, etc. call it what you want. Then one day my fiance and I went for a hike and on the way back I was putting on lip gloss while looking in the mirror and noticed the right side of my head had a big bald patch. This must have been very sudden as I look in the mirror all the time at my hair and didn't notice this before. I went straight to the walk in dr. and he told me i had folliculitis. I then went to my regular dr. for a second opinion and she told me the same thing. She also sent me to a dermatologist. Here I was told that I do have folliculitis but I also have alopecia areata?!@@@? He gave me some cortizone injections and off I went. I followed up with my dr. who then sent me to a specialist where I had more cortizone injections. That was about 2 weeks ago.
My patches have now spread all over my head. My right side is the worst with a half orange size patch and the rest of the patches are about a quarter to a toonie size. I am feeling extremely self conscious of this. Sometimes I am okay and think it will be fine and then so much more hair falls out and I lose it again.
I have a question.. If I am going to lose all the hair on my head is there a time guide as to when this might happen or could it take months to lose it all or what?? Could this be mistaken for telogen effluvism??
